Support law-abiding employers

An OFIR member recently received an alert from the Teamsters Union calling on its members to take action to stop Cintas Corporation from firing illegal immigrant workers. You can see this alert posted on the Teamsters Union website at:

http://www.teamsterstakeaction.org/camp ... as_workers

A fair reading of the situation is that Cintas Corporation is using the federal Basic Pilot Program to check Social Security numbers of its employees and find those with mis-matching numbers indicating possible illegal status. We need to encourage employers to do this, not harass them for trying to follow the law by employing only persons legally entitled to work in this country.

Let’s send emails to the Cintas Corporation or call them and thank them for upholding the law regarding employment of legal workers only. Their website at

http://www.cintas.com/contact/corporate ... efault.asp

gives this contact information:

Mailing Address - Cintas Corporation, 6800 Cintas Blvd., Mason, OH 45040

Telephone number: (513) 459-1200

Email address: info@cintas.com

Here are two newspaper articles on the situation.

San Diego Union Tribune, Nov. 14, 2006, “Workers put on leave because of Social Security mismatches.” http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/stat ... match.html

Capital Times, Madison WI, Nov. 16, 2006, “Employee records ‘mismatch’ could lead to layoffs”

http://www.madison.com/tct/news/index.p ... 25&ntpid=4

This article said: “Worker justice activists plan to visit local companies that use Cintas services next week and picket, and hand out leaflets over the Thanksgiving holiday to inform the public of the issue.”
