    Some notable quotes:
"In a perverse rendition of hide-and-seek, it grants a reward to those who evaded law enforcement for the longest time."

"No illegal alien with half a brain would admit that they came here after 2004."

"The Senate deal asks people who have broken the law for years – often using fraudulent documents – to provide proof that they’ve lived here."

“The Senate’s amnesty authors don’t dispute that their deal will offer blanket amnesty to at least 10 million illegal aliens—everyone who entered the country illegally through 2004."

Tancredo Reacts to Senate Amnesty Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) gave the following reaction to the reported Senate amnesty deal, which would provide amnesty to 10 million or more illegal aliens:

“The Democrats have once again used parliamentary tactics to obstruct the Senate from pursuing its priorities. The only difference this time is that Senator Frist let them. By surrendering to the amnesty demands of Democrats and squishy Republicans, Frist squandered a great opportunity to secure our borders and gain control of our broken immigration system.

“The Senate amnesty deal is miserable public policy that will be rejected by the House of Representatives and has already been rejected by the American people. It continues the running joke that is our immigration system by treating the same crimes differently. In a perverse rendition of hide-and-seek, it grants a reward to those who evaded law enforcement for the longest time. And, as we did in 1986, it will encourage more illegal aliens to come into this country in the hope of yet another amnesty.

“The Senate’s amnesty authors don’t dispute that their deal will offer blanket amnesty to at least 10 million illegal aliens—everyone who entered the country illegally through 2004. But they wouldn’t be dealing honestly with the American people if they failed to state what will happen with the additional two million or more illegal aliens who came here more recently. No illegal alien with half a brain would admit that they came here after 2004. And how could law enforcement tell? The Senate deal asks people who have broken the law for years – often using fraudulent documents – to provide proof that they’ve lived here. I can guarantee that many of those fraudulent documents – which law enforcement hasn’t been able to detect yet – will be used to obtain legal status.

“Handing out legal identification to millions of illegal aliens will expose our nation’s Achilles’ heal more quickly than almost any single action this Congress could take. Just this morning, the International Relations Committee heard from a whistleblower at USCIS – the agency that would be charged with screening the 10 million illegal aliens – who documented the massive fraud and mismanagement in that agency. USCIS has a security backlog in the millions and, in order to reduce the backlog, is encouraging adjudicators to approve visas in fewer than four minutes. It is no secret that two-thirds of foreign-born terrorists operating in the U.S. committed immigration fraud prior to or in conjunction with their terrorist activities. Piling 10 million more applications on USCIS is suicidal in terms of national security.”

I was thinking that Tancredo did not restrict the phrase "squishy Republicans" to just senators - for example he could have said "squishy Republican senators". Instead the phrase could be construed to apply to pro-amnesty elements in the entire national Republican establishment - including of course President Bush! Tancredo will apparently take verbal punches at anyone who favors immigration amnesty.

That could be one reason Tancredo is chairman of the 92-member House Immigration Reform Caucus, which seems to oppose any form of amnesty.

Also below is from an article today in the Washington Post describing the dramatic effect of the 1986 Amnesty Bill - in essence it says that many relatives of those who have been granted citizenship will also file for citizenship.

Thus instead of 8-10 million illegals getting citizenship, as was promoted by the Frist compromise, it could set off massive requests for citizenship by their relatives as well. That could lead to citizenship for many millions more. The Frist compromise will of course be devastating for the blue-collar American worker especially, but eventually other workers as well.

From the Washington Post today, source:

The 1986 amnesty spawned a vast fraudulent-document industry to provide illegal immigrants with the papers that employers were required to request. It also clogged the legal immigration system, as beneficiaries of the amnesty soon filed petitions to bring in millions of their relatives. In addition, the amnesty led to a surge in illegal immigration.

Many relatives of the newly legalized did not bother to wait for authorization to join them in the United States, while others not eligible for such permission poured in anyway to take advantage of the legal foothold that the amnesty offered their relatives. As a result, it became fairly common for many extended immigrant families to include a combination of newly naturalized U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents (green-card holders) and illegal immigrants.

Tom is right with his "reward" comment. This is not just amnesty, it is being rewarded for breaking the law. It's like an embezzler getting to keep the $100,000 he has embezzled after paying a token $2000 fine, plus being allowed to embezzle an additional $200,000!!! That is exactly what these crazy Senators are doing!!!
