Letter From The Alamo...A New Meaning?

Fellow Alipacers, I re-read Travis letter below and it evokes a spirit in me that is applicable in many ways to what we are facing today. Take a moment to read and I think that you will find some parallels as well as consolation in the fact that the American Spirit is alive and well!

    Commandancy of the Alamo------

    Bejar Fby. 24th 1836

To the People of Texas &
    all Americans in the world------

    Fellow citizens & compatriots------

I am besieged, by a thousand
or more of the Mexicans under
Santa Anna ----- I have sustained
    a continual Bombardment &
cannonade for 24 hours & have
not lost a man ----- The enemy
    has demanded a Surrender at
    discretion, otherwise, the garrison
are to be put to the sword, if
the fort is taken ----- I have answered
    the demand with a cannon
shot, & our flag still waves
proudly from the wall ----- I
    shall never Surrender or retreat

Then, I count on you in the
name of Liberty, of patriotism &
every thing dear to the American
character, to come to our aid,
with all dispatch ----- The enemy is
    receiving reinforcements daily &
will no doubt increase to three or
four thousand in four or five days.
If this call is neglected, I am deter
mined to sustain myself as long as
possible & die like a soldier
who never forgets what is due to
his own honor & that of his
    country ----- Victory or Death

    William Barret Travis
    Lt. Col. Comdt

    P. S. The lord is on our side-
When the enemy appeared in sight
we had not three bushels of corn---
We have since found in deserted
houses 80 or 90 bushels & got into
the walls 20 or 30 head of Beeves---

    Travis
...I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid...

More proof of the American Spirit!

It has been a long time since I have read that letter TexasBorn. Perhaps you could repost that once in a while! Great history from great Americans.

Great Letter, chokes you up....I do wish more Americans would wake up and fight back, just calling their congress representatives

SOSA, I fear that the time for phone calls and letters may soon be up. It hasn't had much effect and an invasion has been going on for how many years now? Before I am gone I would like to know that my generation has
done everything it could to keep America as we know it alive for our kids.

Captain Iron, I think it's about time to fire a warning shot over their heads, what do you think?

I think we've got some judicial options---I'm busy working away on them.

President Bush needs to read those words and decide who's side he's really on....

In fact, everyone of our so called presedential candidates should read these words and then decide if they still want to endorse and promote their open borders agenda!

Texasborn, that is a wonderful letter, I havent read it in years. A few years ago I did get a hat made...It has the Texas flag on it & says "Remember the Alamo"...
Alot of BRAVE AMERICANS died at the Alamo and reading the history of the battle is fascinating. One story that does NOT get the attention it should is the MASSACRE at Goliad... It took place approximately 4 weeks before the Battle at the Alamo, and the Mexican Army murdered 400 Americans...BECAUSE THEY WERE AMERICANS!
So, when the American forces moved their way towards Mexico City...
Their Battle Cry was...REMEMBER GOLIAD! REMEMBER THE ALAMO!
    Today...WE NEED A BATTLE CRY.
<div>MY eyes HAVE seen the GLORY... And that GLORY BELONGS to US... We the PEOPLE!</div>
