Three illegal alien Americans expelled from Chile

Chile expels 3 Montana fishing guides

By The Associated Press - 03/15/08

SANTIAGO, Chile — The government has ordered expelled from Chile three Montanans accused of working illegally with a tourist visa.

The governor's office in the southern region of Aysen identified the U.S. citizens as Jason B. Newmack, Lance R. Gleason and Brent C. Taylor. All three are from Dillon, Mont.
The three were illegally working as fishing guides in the region, according to a statement from the office of Gov. Silvia Moreno. They were ordered deported on Wednesday, governor's office spokesman Claudio Diaz told The Associated Press by telephone.

Moreno rejected an appeal by the Americans, but it was not immediately clear whether they were still in the country.

The Web site of 45 Degrees South Fly Fishing Expeditions — a lodge and guide service based in Dillon, Mont., that offers Chile tours for US $3,400 per person — lists a Jason Newmack as its outfitter. A woman who answered the phone at the company's office in Montana declined to comment or confirm the identities of the Americans.

The U.S. Consulate in Santiago was closed for the day, and the national immigration office could not immediately confirm the deportations.

Chile's Internal Revenue Service was evaluating whether to take legal action for a possible tax evasion, according to Moreno's office.

We recognize this as their right but do they recognize ours?

Hey! Can we do an exchange program? We will gladly take our illegals back, if you will take yours.

    Sounds good, but...
If the usual statistics apply between the US and other Central/Latin American countries, it would not even begin to have the guise of reciprocity associated with it...

Personally, I think they should have thrown them in a Chile jail for about six months.

PhredE, I have to agree with you, it would not have been an even exchange, we would have bombarded them.

It is definitely their right, and so, it is ours. They question it, then we should take them to task on it.

They DEMAND that WE recognize THEIR right to deport illegal aliens, but DON'T show US the SAME regard! This is TWO-faced and all-out WRONG!

From their website it appears the only fly fishing tours 45 Degrees South Fly Fishing Expeditions does are to Chile. One could assume its well organized since it offers an all-inclusive fly fishing lodge that maintains a level of comfort and luxury--chef, jacuzzi, sauna, masseuse, internet, etc.
