CLINTON, IA. – Speaking at a rally on Saturday in Clinton, Iowa, GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump said he appreciated Vladimir Putin’s compliments on his candidacy and said it would be “nice” if the United States “got along” with Russia and China.

“Wouldn’t it be nice if we actually got along with Russia and China and all these countries?” Trump said. “Wouldn’t it be nice?

“So that when we have an ISIS threat and we have these threats they can actually spend money and put money into that and knock the hell out of them also--it’s not always us–the policemen of the world.”

In December, the Guardian reported that Putin praised Trump following a December press conference.

“He is a very colorful and talented man, no doubt about that,” Putin said. “He is the absolute leader of the presidential race, as we see it today.

“He says that he wants to move to another level of relations, to a deeper level of relations with Russia,” Putin said. “How can we not welcome that? Of course we welcome it.”

Trump said Putin has called him “a genius” and that his Republican rivals wanted him to denounce Putin.

“When Putin said Trump is a genius, Trump is this, Trump--these people wanted me to say to Putin, ‘We want you to take that statement back’ these people that I’m running against.

“He called me a genius,” Trump said. “He said I’m the leader and--I don’t know if he meant it. Who the hell knows? I’m mean, you know.”

Trump said he would not be “seduced” by the praise but he encouraged it.

“They wanted me to demand that he take it back,” Trump said. “Who the hell’s going to take it back, can you….No I want him to say it a few more times so everyone knows.

“And then they want me to denounce Putin,” Trump said. “Why would I denounce him,” Trump said “For what? For what?

“You know, it’s sort of interesting,” Trump said. “Wouldn’t it be nice if we actually got along with Russia and China and all these countries?

“Wouldn’t it be nice?” Trump said. “So that when we have an ISIS threat and we have these threats they can actually spend money and put money into things and knock the hell out of them also -- it’s not always us – the policemen of the world.

“So that I can get China to go and do a number on North Korea where this maniac is building nuclear missiles all over the place,” Trump said.

Chinese cheating & failed leadership have cost Alabama 98k manufacturing jobs since 2001

As the Alabama legislature enters the 2016 session, legislators have one thing on their mind: how can we make the state of Alabama flourish again? As elected leaders, we understand our joint responsibility to create more jobs, maintain a stable economy, and perhaps the most significant task—work together to create a brighter future for Alabama.

These issues go hand-in-hand and we need our state and national leaders to make manufacturing growth a top-of-mind priority in order to yield increased economic stability.

Historically rich in iron and steel, Alabama had once secured itself as a manufacturing “hotspot” and much of our state’s growth was built upon this industry. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for today as the manufacturing industry has hit a standstill.

On a national level, an estimated one million jobs rely on a strong steel industry but with key manufacturing industries like steel at risk, middle class jobs continue to be eliminated.

Despite President Obama’s promise to create one million new manufacturing jobs in his second term, these jobs are slow in growth, with Alabama manufacturing jobs among the most suffering. Our state alone has lost more than 98,000 manufacturing jobs since 2001. In order for the state to reach a “full recession recovery,” the state will need to add an additional 41,300 manufacturing jobs.

We are fortunate to live in a state that has the infrastructure to attract and support a variety of manufacturing industries but there is much work to be done in bringing American-made goods back to America and thus creating jobs for Alabamians.

We cannot continue to put our jobs and economy at risk by allowing China to use the United States as a “dumping spot” for their overproduction of steel goods.

In order for Alabama state legislators to pave the way again for a flourishing state with a strong economy that continues to provide our neighbors with jobs, we must call on those in Washington who continue to strengthen foreign competitors through their unfair practices.

We are working hard in Montgomery to help Alabama’s economy, but we need leaders on the state and federal levels, especially those vying to be our next President, to create better policy solutions to bring back American-made manufacturing and Alabama jobs.

Through the creation of local manufacturing jobs and putting more Alabamians back in the workforce, the economy will improve. A sound economy will provide our state with a secure infrastructure and an improved way of life for current residents and the future leaders of tomorrow.

Meet Alabama’s four most conservative lawmakers

    • WRITTEN BY CLIFF SIMS
    • ON FEBRUARY 2, 2016 AT 10:15 AM CST

From left to right: State Rep. Mike Holmes, Sen. Slade Blackwell, Sen. Bill Holtzclaw, and Rep. Ed Henry

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The American Conservative Union (ACU) this week is rolling out its annual list of Alabama’s most conservative and liberal lawmakers, and the organization’s scores may come as a surprise to some legislator’s constituents.

ACU was founded in 1964 and refers to itself as the “nation’s oldest and largest conservative grassroots organization.”
“For more than fifty years, ACU has served as an umbrella organization harnessing the collective strength of conservative organizations fighting for Americans who are concerned with liberty, personal responsibility, traditional values, and strong national defense,” the group says on its website. “As America’s premier conservative voice, ACU is the leading entity in providing conservative positions on issues to Congress, the Executive Branch, State Legislatures, the media, political candidates, and the public.”

The organization has for years released annual conservative ratings for members of the United States House and Senate, and more recently began doing the same at the state level.

Here’s how Alabama legislature stacked up:

In 2015, the average Alabama Senate Republican scored 62% on a scale of 1-100, while the average Senate Democrat scored a 35%.
In the House, the average Republican scored a 48% and the average Democrat scored 46%, leaving very little gap between the two parties.

Only four lawmakers received the ACU’s Award for Conservative Achievement for scoring over 80%.

After calculating last year’s votes, Senators Bill Holtzclaw (R-Huntsville) and Slade Blackwell (R-Mountain Brook) and Representatives Ed Henry (R-Hartselle) and Mike Holmes (R-Wetumpka) were rated the legislature’s most conservative members.
Senators Holtzclaw and Blackwell, who were rated 86% and 85% respectively, were members of the Senate’s Gang of Nine, the small group of staunchly conservative lawmakers who refused to bend to pressure to raise taxes, consistently voting “no” and sometimes launching into filibusters of tax bills backed by their own party.

Holtzclaw, a Marine, also gained statewide attention last year for taking out a billboard in his district that said, “Governor Bentley wants to raise your taxes. I will not let that happen. Semper Fi.”

Blackwell, a successful real estate developer from Alabama’s most affluent city, is frequently mentioned as a possible statewide candidate.

Representatives Henry and Holmes, who were rated 82% and 81%, have almost identical voting records in the House, albeit with very different styles.

Holmes is a mild-mannered, longtime stalwart of local conservative grassroots organizations, including the Wetumpka Tea Party and the Elmore County Republican Party, of which he is a past chairman.

Henry is a north Alabama conservative firebrand who has become the most outspoken opponent of House GOP leadership. He is currently the Alabama co-chairman of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
