Fox never corrected their stated error on the actual rating by BBB on Trump Univ.....it is an A. Fox is wrong. Trump should have acknowledged in his closing statement that he did show proof he was correct.

During Thursday night’s Republican presidential debate, Donald Trump was put on the spot about Trump University, which is the subject of a class action lawsuit.

“We have a 98 percent approval rating, we have an A from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and people like it,” Trump said at the GOP primary debate Thursday.

Rival Marco Rubio said Trump’s claim was “false. That’s a D minus. Go on my website.”

Fox News host Megyn Kelly intervened in the discussion and sided with Rubio.

“With respect, we went back and looked at this,” Kelly said. “The rating from the Better Business Bureau was a D minus. That’s the last publicly available rating in 2010, and it was a result of the number of complaints they had received.”

“The only reason it was a D was because we didn’t care, we didn’t give them the information,” he said.

Kelly said there was no proof of Trump’s claim that the BBB gave the project an A.

“I can give it to you,” he said. “I will give it to you. I will give it to you tomorrow. … It was elevated to an A.”

Trump urged patience on the issue.

“Let’s see what happens in court. This is a civil case, very easy to have settled, could settle it now, very easy to have settled. … Let’s see what happens at the end of a couple years when this case is over,” Trump said.

“It’s been going for five years,” Kelly shot back.

“Yeah, it’s been going for a long time,” Trump responded.

Trump did not let the issue rest there. During a commercial break, Trump handed debate moderator Bret Baier a fax he received at the Detroit venue where the debate was held. Apparently, the fax contained updated BBB information, Trump posted a copy of the fax on Facebook, showing an ‘A’ grade from the BBB.

The updated information was not made public during the show. Trump handed it to the Fox hosts just before the candidates’ closing statements.

Better Business Beureau denies debate night "fax" to Trump

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is disputing a report that it had provided Donald Trump's campaign with a "fax" of Trump University ratings during a commercial break for the Fox News Republican debate on Thursday.

The Independent Journal Review posted a video to Twitter showing Trump handing a piece of paper to debate moderators during the break:Trump can be heard on the recording saying, "Better Business Bureau just sent it...this just came in."

But the BBB said they were not the source of the fax.

On Friday, the organization said this: "A video released by Independent Journal implies that BBB sent a fax in the middle of last night's Republican debate, which we did not. The BBB Business Review of Trump Entrepreneur Initiative (formerly Trump University) has shown 'No Rating' continually since September 2015. The photo tweeted out after the debate last night did not show the current BBB Business Review or the current rating."

The statement comes amid an ongoing controversy over the now-defunct Trump University, which is currently embroiled in a civil lawsuit, and its previous BBB ratings.

On Thursday's debate stage, Trump said of his school, "We have a 98 percent approval rating, we have an 'A' from the Better Business Bureau, and people like it."
Debate moderator and Fox News host Megyn Kelly responded that "the rating from the BBB was a D-minus, and it was a result of a number of complaints they received."
Trump later claimed the rating was elevated to an "A."

According to the BBB statement, "Over the years, the company's BBB rating has fluctuated between an A+ and a D-. At this time, the status is 'No Rating' because the company is believed to be out of business."
The BBB's refuting claim is just one of the problems to crop up out of Trump's performance on the debate stage Thursday.

A CNN report filed Saturday charged Trump with breaking Fox News' debate rules, citing sources from rival campaigns and the cable network.

According to CNN, Trump consulted with campaign manager Corey Lewandowski during the first commercial break Thursday. That contact would have violated Fox News' stated debate rules, which prohibit any contact between the candidate and their campaign.

Trump's campaign has not responded to a request for comment about the CNN report.

Fact-checking Donald Trump's claims about Trump University

Republican frontrunner Donald Trump’s challengers have called him many things; add to that list the charge from Florida Sen. Marco Rubio that Trump is a con man. Rubio's recent attacks have focused on allegations of false marketing by Trump University.
It wasn’t a real university -- and had to change its name to Trump Entrepreneur Institute because of that. It was largely a seminar program that promised to teach its students the real estate secrets that turned Trump into a billionaire. With some participants paying as much as $35,000, the project drew investigations and lawsuits in at least three states.
The university registered as a private company in New York in October 2004 and largely shut down by 2011. When NBC host Chuck Todd raised issues with the university, Trump defended the program, noting that nearly all the students thought it was "great."
"They signed these documents saying, they rated the course, 98 percent approval rating and high marks," Trump said on Meet the Press on Feb. 28, 2016. And he added, "We have an A from the Better Business Bureau.

We went to the Better Business Bureau website and saw that as of today, the Trump Entrepreneur Institute has no rating. The website explained, "This business has no rating because BBB has information indicating it is out of business."
Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks told us, "When the school was operational it was rated A."
We asked Hicks to document that rating and didn’t hear back.
Katherine Hutt, director of communications for the Council of Better Business Bureaus, said that as a matter of policy, they don’t provide any ratings from previous years.But the organization issued a statement that "Over the years, the company’s BBB rating has fluctuated between an A+ and a D-."
We don’t know when the bureau might have given Trump University a top grade, but based on the Internet Archive, the last time the Better Business Bureau gave the university any rating at all was 2010, when it give it a D-minus. That assessment showed up in plenty of news articles.
That year, the New York Daily News reported that "the Better Business Bureau in January slapped a D-minus rating on Trump U., a rating now under review after Trump U. objected."
CBS News said the same thing in an April 21, 2010, article.
And in May, 2011, the New York Times wrote "The Better Business Bureau gave the school a D-minus for 2010, its second-lowest grade, after receiving 23 complaints."
The Washington Post had the same information in May 2011 when it reported that the New York State Attorney General was investigating the Trump Entrepreneur Institute. The Attorney General’s Office did file charges but stumbled on the grounds that the statute of limitations had passed. The matter is under appeal.
Under the new name Trump Entrepreneur Initiative, ratings ranged from C to B between 2012 and 2014. We found no ratings at all for the past two years.
Our ruling
Trump said about his entrepreneur institute that "we have an ‘A’ from the Better Business Bureau." Literally speaking, that is inaccurate. The Better Business Bureau gives the program no rating today because it’s no longer a going concern.
Trump University had an A at some point. The Better Business Bureau doesn't release details of its past ratings, but it did say Trump's program had ratings that ranged from A+ to D-.
What we do know, from several published reports and archived Web pages, is that the university had a D in 2010 and under its new name, had ratings ranging from C to B, with no ratings after March 2014.
Trump’s claim is literally wrong and also ignores the university’s lower Better Business Bureau scores. We rate it False.

Time will tell what the details are. Myself, I do not hold one or two bad business deals amongst THOUSANDS that are successful against him. Launching & adding your brands to as many items as he has can have some drawbacks, loss of control to other partners for one. Maybe it didn't turn out how he initially thought it would once it was handled by others. He has a vodka & a wine from a Virginia winery and he does drink alcohol. The wine is quite good and from a local east coast vineyard he bought.

What I am against is cruz being defeated by hillary which would be the scenario if cruz is the nominee. He does not stand a chance nationally, most staunch conservatives do not & the democratic party has more voters. Trump has truck loads of democrats ready to vote for him - cruz does not. His wife being a 5yr CFR member, authoring a report on the North American Community, an open border concept becoming a reality, (perfect fit a latino from Canada) along with his backing by big gas & oil are more inline with the corporate take over of the USA and all its consequences.

Off topic but to example, refer to the two links below and remember if you keep nit picking at the candidate that HAS the best chance of beating hillary, you will have her in the WH with her rapist husband and all her amnesties, refugees, muslims, self serving accumulation of wealth at our expense.

We would NOT be hearing ANY discussion of closing our borders if it were not for Mr Trump. No human being is perfect.

Moderators need to stop with the gotchas & causing bickering. What are the plans for Keystone XL pipeline from these candidates among many other topics they should be asking to better inform us?

Keystone will try again once O is out of office. There are pages & pages of eminent domain land ready to be taken from us for this Canadian project with pipes that could break at anytime. Trump is a businessman, cruz in an oil lover - I would like to know because I could just not vote AGAIN if they are for it. Certainly could not pull the lever for hillary.

Trump agrees to $25M settlement to resolve Trump U. lawsuits

SAN DIEGO (AP) - President-elect Donald Trump agreed Friday to pay $25 million to settle lawsuits against his now-defunct Trump University for real estate investors, averting a trial in a potentially embarrassing case that he had vowed during the campaign to keep fighting.

The agreement came 10 days before jury selection was scheduled to begin in one of three cases. The complaints accused Trump University, which wasn't an accredited school, of defrauding students who paid up to $35,000 a year to enroll in programs that promised to share Trump's real estate secrets.

About 7,000 students would be eligible for refunds if U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel approves the proposed settlement. Under the terms, Trump admitted no wrongdoing in two class-action lawsuits in San Diego and a civil suit brought by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

The settlement lifts what would probably have been a major headache for Trump as he works to fill key executive branch positions and get acquainted with foreign leaders. The San Diego trial, on a case filed in 2010, was expected to last several weeks, guaranteeing daily news coverage of a controversy that dogged him during the campaign.

Trump's political rivals seized on the lawsuits to try to portray him as dishonest and deceitful. Trump brought more attention to them by repeatedly assailing Curiel, who oversaw the San Diego cases. Trump suggested the Indiana-born judge's Mexican heritage exposed a bias.

The thousands of former students covered by the San Diego lawsuits will be eligible to receive at least half and possibly all their money back, as much as $35,000, said Jason Forge, an attorney for the plaintiffs. The plaintiffs' attorneys waived their fees.

Trump has denied the allegations and said during the campaign that he would not settle. He told supporters at a May rally that he would come to San Diego to testify after winning the presidency.

"I could have settled this case numerous times but I don't want to settle cases when we're right. I don't believe in it. And when you start settling cases, you know what happens? Everybody sues you because you get known as a settler. One thing about me, I am not known as a settler," Trump said at the time.

Two days after the election, Trump's lead attorney in the San Diego cases, Daniel Petrocelli, said he was "all ears" to settlement talks and accepted an offer to have U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Miller of San Diego broker negotiations.

Forge said the agreement was reached an hour before a hearing for Curiel to weigh Trump's latest request to delay the trial until after the Jan. 20 inauguration. The plaintiffs' attorney said he "definitely detected a change of tone and change of approach" from Trump's camp after the election.

"We were at each other's throat for 6 ½ years and were able to find the common ground with them and do something good there," Forge told reporters.

Schneiderman called the agreement a "stunning reversal" for the president-elect, saying Trump "fought us every step of the way, filing baseless charges and fruitless appeals and refusing to settle for even modest amounts of compensation for the victims of his phony university. Today, that all changes."

Trump's attorneys said the settlement allows the president-elect to focus full attention on his transition to the White House.

"He was willing to sacrifice his personal interests, put this behind him, and move forward," Petrocelli said.

Alan Garten, the Trump Organization's general counsel, said he had "no doubt" Trump would have prevailed at trial.

The lawsuits allege that Trump University gave nationwide seminars that were like infomercials, constantly pressuring people to spend more and, in the end, failing to deliver on its promises. The San Diego trial would have been pinned on whether a nine-member jury believed Trump misled customers by calling the business a university and by advertising that he hand-picked instructors.

Court documents unsealed in May revealed strategies for enticing people to enroll even if they couldn't afford it. The documents outlined how employees should guide people through "the roller coaster of emotions" after they express interest and tells employees to be "very aggressive during these conversations to in order to push them out of their comfort zones."

Transcripts of about 10 hours of Trump depositions provided additional material to rivals, though Curiel denied a request to release video of Trump's testimony that would have likely been used in campaign attack ads. Trump acknowledged in the depositions that he played on people's fantasies, and he could not recall names of his employees despite his advertising pitch that he "hand-picked" them.

Trump has repeatedly claimed a 98 percent customer satisfaction rate on internal surveys. Plaintiffs countered that students were asked to rate the product when they believed they still had more instruction to come and were reluctant to openly criticize their teachers on surveys that were not anonymous.

The settlement comes a day after watchdog groups and ethics experts who served in both Republican and Democratic administrations sent a letter to Trump urging him to make a clean break from his business to avoid "embroiling the presidency in litigation."

One of the authors, Richard Painter, an ethics lawyer at the White House under President George W. Bush, said the Trump University settlement might backfire if lawyers think Trump is eager to settle to avoid court cases while president.

"The plaintiffs' lawyers," he said, "are going to smell blood in the water."
