Trump Campaign Manager: Immigration Stance is 'What it's Always Been'

    Thursday, August 25, 2016 11:49 AM
    By: Sandy Fitzgerald

Donald Trump's stance on immigration this week is "what it's always been," campaign manager Kellyanne Conway insisted Thursday while rejecting concerns that he's softened on his stance on the hardline policies he's backed since the beginning of his campaign last summer.

"Donald Trump's against amnesty, and I'm against amnesty," Conway told CNN "New Day" host Chris Cuomo.

But on Wednesday night, during a town-hall-style event hosted by Fox News' Sean Hannity, Trump indicated his policies could allow "working with" some undocumented immigrants to stay in the United States, drawing comparisons to Jeb Bush and departing from calls he'd made before about deporting the 11 million or more undocumented immigrants living in the country.

"No citizenship. Let me go a step further -- they'll pay back-taxes, they have to pay taxes, there's no amnesty, as such, there's no amnesty, but we work with them," Trump told Hannity.

Cuomo told Conway that Trump's words could sound like a departure for other hardliners, who call for deportation, but Conway told him that "voters need to see is what Donald Trump is saying his immigration plan is."

That plan, she continued is "no amnesty, no sanctuary cities so that innocent victims like Kate Steinle who was murdered right in front of her father in San Francisco, by a man who had been deported five times. That should outrage everybody in the United States, regardless of their political affiliation."

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, however, supports sanctuary cities and amnesty, said Conway.

"She's actually considerably to the left of [President] Barack Obama on the issue of immigration, and the only way the voters are going to know that is if we tell them," Conway said.

Trump's plans also continue to include building a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, she continued.

Cuomo, though, commented that Trump's stance, particularly when it comes to obeying the laws on the books, mirrors proposals from former rivals like Jeb Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio, a contention Conway denied.

"This man's not for amnesty," she told Cuomo, who replied "neither was Rubio."

"Rubio's a particularly different case because he led the Gang of Eight with [New York Democratic Sen.] Chuck Schumer," Conway said. "Their plan was amnesty."

Conway told Cuomo Trump is now working on a new message on immigration with Alabama GOP Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, who calls for a border, and with Stephen Miller, a Trump adviser and former Sessions staff worker.

The two men are "immigration experts," she told him. "I think that they are trying to find a way to explain -- well, for Donald Trump to articulate to Americans a very complex issue and how he feels about it."

Trump was to have delivered a speech in Denver on Thursday on the topic of immigration, but ended up canceling it and other scheduled appearances in Oregon and Colorado.

New Trump Campaign Manager Paid By Mark Zuckerberg Group To Flack For Amnesty

August 18, 2016 By Bre Payton
Before she was Donald Trump’s campaign manager, pollster Kellyanne Conway wrote a memo in favor of a bill to provide illegal immigrants a legal pathway to citizenship.

The 2014 memo she co-authored for FWD.us, a pro-immigration amnesty organization funded by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, said voters broadly supported the idea of an immigration reform bill, CNN reports.

The bill, which would have provided a pathway to citizenship for 11 million people inside the United States illegally, differs drastically from Trump’s immigration policies — which includes deporting anyone who immigrated illegally and building a wall along the border dividing the United States and Mexico.

“[Passing the bill] solves a serious problem in a way that Americans, including Hispanics, overwhelmingly support — and improves Republicans’ standing with swing voters now, in the next presidential election, and for years to come,” the memo stated.

The memo, which 15 Republican pollsters signed, said that voters, by a 2 to 1 margin, did not think the immigration reform bill provided amnesty to illegal immigrants — which differs sharply from what Trump has said about the bill.

It is not what it always has been. KellyAnne Conway has supported amnesty and she has used her polling to push the idea as mentioned above.

    Paying Back Taxes = Amnesty
Every person who hears them and who has any knowledge of illegal immigration hears the voices of John McCain, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Mike Pence, all amnesty supporters.

To read that Senator Sessions and Stephen Miller are assisting Trump to craft his message on illegal immigration may bring him back to a better plan to protect the American people and to enforce our laws.

Kellyanne Conway is a total disaster. She needs to stay off the television. And Trump needs to fire her or get her out of control of the campaign as soon as possible. I don't trust her at all. Not one bit. Her statements over the past 5 days and even some changes occurring with regards to his rallies, stopping the sale of tickets early, turning the lights off up in the high sections of the arenas to hide the crowds filling the space to the rafters, these are not bad acts. They reduce the crowds that show up and diminish the appearance of the crowds when in the rare moments the cameras show the crowds. It also deletes the venue from their website early, before they occur when people need to be able to go to the website and find it to look it up on the internet and view the rally on Live Stream.

Trump is not changing his immigration policy, not at all. He has clarified that on CNN Anderson Cooper. The confusion by Kellyanne Conway and her horrible stupid Trojan Horse interviews for 5 days and then Sean Hannity using that fake promo to create a media stir for ratings and then the CORRUPT MEDIA taking a hypothetical scenario Trump set up for the audience to poll on as HIS position, which it wasn't, it's been a week of what Trump called "the media confusing the media".

This total confusion on Trump's signature issue, confusion created by a lie circulated by Univision, amplified by Kellyanne Conway who went on a MEDIA TOUR, she was on Sunday, then at least 2 x a day on national mainstream media perpetuating this LIE, all timed to coincide with Ted Cruz, someone who she formerly supported, and his bill he introduced into the US Senate and his interview of "I Told You So".

    Unbelievable.

I truly can't believe she's still allowed into meetings in the Trump Campaign.

    SHE HAS GOT TO GO!!!

Oh, I just heard Corey Lewandowski on Don Lemon's show on CNN, you should have seen him, he was so good defending Trump on immigration that even Don Lemon said, "you sound like you're still Trump's Campaign Manager".

Take a hint, Trump and Bannon, get a spokesman on television who actually knows Trump, who agrees with his positions, who knows what they are and how to articulate and fight for them, i. e. COREY LEWANDOWSKI.

Trump didn't want to fire Corey. There's an ole saying I heard from a boss one time many years ago, "trust yourself when all others doubt you". Donald Trump, heed this advice. You actually know best what to do. So just do it.

    REHIRE COREY!

Kellyanne has used your immigration stance to turn this election into a race war. Clinton calls Trump a racist, pushing prejudice and paranoia over his immigration policy, and now Trump fights back with calling her a bigot over the failure of Clinton and the Democratic Machine to do anything to help black Americans or Hispanic Americans exploiting them to win elections and then not only not doing anything to help them but actually using their open borders immigration policy to harm them.

Trump is right. Can he articulate it? Can he get it out there so people understand what he's saying? Possibly if interviewers will ever let him finish a sentence or a thought. They let Hillary prattle on for 5 minutes without an interruption, but always interrupt Trump after 20 seconds.
