The idea that shadowy figures such as George Soros are paying protesters to show up at anti-Trump rallies—as if it's difficult to find people to protest an extremely unpopular president who is especially unpopular in the high-density urban areas where protests are usually held—is a commonly circulated one on the right. The expectation that a significant crowd of protesters will gather outside tonight's Donald Trump speech in Phoenix has triggered the usual paranoia:

"Rent-a-Mob," as its name would indicate, does not appear to be a real company, and past accusations of actors being paid to support leftist causes elsewhere have been debunked. The left has countered this time, though, with its own paranoid-claim-based-on-a-fake-seeming-Craigslist-ad gambit:

The ad has been taken down and the phone number associated with it doesn't appear to be connected to any sort of booking company, but the claim that Trump is hiring actors of color is still percolating online. (To be fair, the Federal Election Commission has confirmed that Trump really did hire actors to fill out the crowd at his Trump Tower campaign launch in 2015.)

Meanwhile, the individual who took video of protesters including Heather Heyer being run over in Charlottesville writes in Politico Tuesday that he and his parents have been stalked and harassed by far-right extremists accusing him of being a "CIA operative" or left-wing plant who is "funded by (choose your own adventure) George Soros, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, the IMF/World Bank, and/or a global Jewish mafia to orchestrate the Charlottesville attack in order to turn the general public against the alt-right."

Good job all around on this one, America.

White House Bracing for an Angry Reception in Phoenix

Who knows truth these days - that's the saddest and most frightening part of it.

Just because you have some scuzzy people, wearing swastikas, and KKK symbols, does not mean they are part of that organization. Or that they speak for any segment of the white population of this country.

That leads me to believe these people who act like idiots and claim they are KKK, or whatever, really aren't. It's just an excuse for some to act like fools and get lots of media attention.

Does anyone really believe all those black people rioting and burning in the name of whatever, really have an ideology. Some are getting paid, some are getting notoriety, some just want to be able to act like gangstas - and get away with it.

If you want to know who pays these people - probably George Soros both sides. Maybe, tho, we need look no farther than our own government.

Paying protesters should be illegal, no different than paying a voter for their vote or registering to vote. Protests are huge inconveniences, lead to enormous law enforcement expense paid by taxpayers, disrupt businesses, block traffic and commerce, create hazards, distract media like flies on honey, lead to violence, property damage and even injuries and death. We endure the peaceful assembly as a right of the people, it should NOT be influenced by paid protesters.

They should at least be charged with inciting a riot - when a riot does occur.

I'm getting really tired of seeing these people, of any persuasion rioting, fighting, tearing up things, and nothing being done.

Two young men, 19 & 21, I believe burned about 10 churches in East Texas some years ago. The churches were empty, no one was hurt. One young man received 10 life sentences and another received 5 life senetences. Yet these mobs can riot, destroy, and burn dozens of businesses and not even be arrested.

Where is our law?

I'm not defending the men who burned the churches, just pointing out the ridiculous way our justice system works. No wonder there is little or no respect for it and no wonder the thugs know they can get away with whatever.

Oh, 214 'arrested'. What were their sentences?

How many have been arrested for the burning and looting in Ferguson and other places? Did they get 5 or 10 life sentences? Did they get 5 or 10 days/minutes?

The fact is our laws are not being used where they should. People are allowed to destroy, burn, and harm people and property and nothing is done. They are actually treated as heroes by our media and many of our politicians, while others receive harsh sentences.

I'm sure there have been many 'arrested', but what is the punishment - that's my point -

White supremacist Christopher Cantwell surrenders to police

(CNN) Christopher Cantwell, a white supremacist organizer who was featured in a Vice documentary about hate groups that converged on Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this month, has turned himself in, University of Virginia Police said Wednesday.

UVA police issued warrants for Cantwell's arrest on two counts of illegal use of tear gas and other gasses, and one count of malicious bodily injury with a caustic substance in connection with the August 11 march on the school campus.

Cantwell, of Keene, New Hampshire, surrendered to police in Lynchburg, Virginia. He is currently being held at the regional jail as he awaits transport to Charlottesville, police said.

The August 11 protest on the university grounds took place a day before a violent "Unite the Right" rally in downtown Charlottesville.

Cantwell seemed brash and defiant in interviews with Vice. But he appeared tearful in a separate Facebook video posted on the same weekend of the attack.

Cantwell said then that he might be arrested, but didn't specify why.

"We have done everything in our power to keep this peaceful," he said in the video. "I've been engaged in violence. I have. There's no question about it. And I've done nothing to hide that. But it was done in defense of myself and others."

CNN reported on the arrest warrants Friday, citing a senior law enforcement source connected to the Charlottesville investigation.

During the August 11 march on Virginia's campus, protesters chanted "Jews will not replace us" and "White lives matter" in opposition to a Charlottesville City Council plan to remove a Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee statue from a nearby park.

Protesters also chanted "blood and soil" -- an English translation of the Nazi slogan "Blut und Boden," which glorified rural living and held that only blood descent can entitle individuals to belonging in the nation.

On August 12, white nationalists gathered for the "Unite the Right" rally and clashed with counterprotesters in downtown Charlottesville. Heather Heyer, 32, was killed when police said a man drove his car into a crowd.

The driver, James Alex Fields Jr., 20, has been charged with second-degree murder and other offenses. His next court appearance is Friday.

Two Virginia state troopers were killed in a helicopter crash nearby after monitoring events during the "Unite the Right" rally.
