I agree Reagan got some bad information, but he fell for it. He fell for the amnesty and he fell for the idea of privatization.

That is a prime example of really thinking about a bill before supporting it. Any bill needs to be looked at to determine any and all ways it can be used, abused and gotten around.

The people who write bills, that's not our congresspeople, but special interests, make sure they have left a loophole to be able to do just that. When a bill sounds really good - it probably isn't.

It was also a political philosophy issue with Reagan. Reagan wasn't raised Republican, he was raised Democrat. Republicans were protectionists, Democrats were free traders, all the way back to the slavery days.

Regardless of his reasoning, it was wrong.

Since I have a soft spot for Ronald Reagan, what I realized about his actions, was all hindsight. It wasn't until I looked back and saw the results of his actions, I realized the truth.

It was also another case of 'his predecessor was so bad, we must accept anything our man' says'. Exactly, as we did with Bush.

Free trade is one thing - managed/one sided trade is another.

Privatization of aspects of the government is a bad idea - a very bad idea.

Giving amnesty was a very bad idea. It only signaled the door was open.

As I said, all this was hindsight.

I liked Reagan but I wasn't the fan some were, because I didn't agree with several of his major policies and trade and immigration were two of them.
