Update on the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish in Tucson Unified School District schools
Forward to everyone you know!
As many of you know I found out from my son a week ago, that every morning in his 2nd grade classroom is told to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish. When I found this out, I was outraged. I went to his school and met with his teacher, Mrs. Lee. I told Mrs. Lee that I was very offended, and outraged that my 8 year old son was being required to say the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish. She told me that she disagreed, and felt that it was a great way to teach Spanish to these 8 year olds. I then told her that my son was not allowed to participate in this. I told her that when you pledge allegiance to this country, you do it in English, and not a foreign language! I told her it was a disgrace to the men and women who are fighting or have fought for this country and its flag. She disagreed. I then went to the principal, Mrs. Godfrey, and expressed my concerns and outrage that second grade students in her school were pledging allegiance to this country in a foreign language. She informed me that Only Mrs. Lee's class did this, and Mrs. Lee had every right to do this. She also told me that she contacted the VFW and they had no problem with this. She told me I had two choices, one, tell my son not to participate, or two, have my son moved to another class. I chose the latter. Having my son in the same classroom as this teacher who was having second graders pledge allegiance to our country in a foreign language was too much.
She might think the problem has been resolved, because my son has been moved to another class, but there are still 20+ other second graders being required to say the Pledge of Allegiance in a foreign language. This practice of pledging in a foreign countries native tongue is wrong, no matter what language it is. I am of German descent, but am a proud American, and I would be just as angry if my son was required to say the Pledge in German.
It is very SIMPLE, you don’t pledge allegiance to your country in a foreign language.
Now here is where I need help. I need each one of you to take a few minutes and e-mail the Principal, and the Tucson Unified School District governing board. Let them know that you feel this is wrong, and needs to change immediately. Don’t make this an argument about illegal immigration or speaking Spanish, but make this an argument about only Pledging Allegiance to the USA in English! Please be polite, as we want to get the point across, and not come across as a angry mob. Also if you are a veteran or currently enlisted military personnel, please let her know that this is a disgrace to all those who have fought or are fighting. She currently thinks that no one has a problem with it. I have listed the contact info for both the Principal and the TUSD Board below.

The Pledge of Allegiance is to be spoken in English only.
The National Council of LaRaza is the largest*hate group.

Speaking English for the alligience to the flag is a great way for those WHO ARE NOT FROM THIS COUNTRY to learn English, Mrs. Lee

Good Lord -- why can't this teacher see than requiring HER students to recite it in English is a great way for them to LEARN ENGLISH!!!
I suppose there is no hard and fast rule that it be spoken in English, but it is an outright offense to the people of this nation who speak the English language. Saying it in English is as much a part of the experience, of the spirit of the Pledge as the Pledge is itself.
But this is something these people cannot understand.
How offensive -- I wonder if Americans went to other countries and demanded that the anthems and creeds of their countries had to be recited in English -- how they would feel.
There is just no end to the arrogance of these people.

I called yesterday but the principal was in a meeting so I left a message. SHE JUST CALLED ME BACK!!!!
I reminded her about the time in 2006 when the Star Spangled Banner was translated into Spanish and playing on the radio. I reminded her that the backlash was so huge that PRES. BUSH HAD TO COME OUT ON TV AND ANNOUNCE THAT IT SHOULD ONLY BE SUNG IN ENGLISH!!!
She said there is no protocol on how the Pledge should be recited, and I told her IT'S BECAUSE IT HAS NEVER BEEN RECITED IN ANYTHING BUT ENGLISH!! It is a "given." Just like English is our national language.
Can you imagine if we said the Pledge in German? Russian?????
I also told her I don't care how Ms. Lee teaches Spanish, JUST STAY AWAY FROM THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE!!
She was not happy with me at all (easy to tell) and said she will take it up with the "governing board."
EVERYONE, PLEASE CALL HER NOW AND TELL HER TOO BEFORE SHE GOES TO THE GOVERNING BOARD!!!PRESS 1 FOR ENGLISH. PRESS 2 FOR DEPORTATION.
