A Texas high school quarterback has been arrested and charged with making terroristic threats via Twitter.

Oscar Resendez, 18, was arrested on Friday in Alice, Texas, after he tweeted "Or we could start a riot and kill all the teachers" and "We could call in a bomb threat so we can go home" on Thursday, The Alice Echo-News Journal reported.

Alice High School's principal reported Resendez's tweets to police, who were already at the school around 11 a.m. when it was locked down because a different student was alleged to have brought a gun to school. Those allegations were not confirmed, the paper reported.

Resendez was taken into custody after principal Lucinda Munoz told police of his tweets. According to the paper, he will be charged with terroristic threats, a felony.

"We take these type of threats very, very seriously, even if the student is (joking), because really you never know with these situations," Superintendent Grace Everett told the Echo-News Journal.

Resendez's arrest came on the same day as a school shooting in Newtown, Conn., in which a single gunman killed 20 children and six adults before fatally shooting himself at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Adam Lanza, the gunman, is believed to have killed his mother, Nancy, before going to the school.
