U.S. Citizenship Proof Required For Medicaid In N.C.

WINSTON-SALEM -- A state official said a requirement that Medicaid recipients in North Carolina prove they're U.S. citizens probably won't uncover a large amount of fraud.
Mark Benton is the senior deputy director for the state Division of Medical Assistance. He said he'll be surprised if the state has a problem with large numbers of ineligible people getting benefits.
Starting Friday, Sept. 1, new applicants and most current beneficiaries must provide documentation of their citizenship. The law was to have taken effect nationwide on July 1. North Carolina delayed its start while it prepared for the changes

Do you know if North Carolina has any plans of restricting driving licenses to legal citizens only.

I don't know about drivers license. I don't know of proposed
legislation. The public safety talking heads have come out
with the same arg -- we'd rather have everyone tested & lic'ed &
it's the feds job to make sure they should be here or no. SoS.
There was even a program in spanish to convince them our laws
did not allow DUI, which is apparantly not so strict in Mexico!
    Where are the MADD advocates?

As for medicaid, isn't there fed law which says their children
get it? What an absolute schizo system.

Of course not!! All the illegals have documents most healthcare providers will not recognize as forged!! Every medicaid recipient should be checked against a national database just as employers will do. The excuse that healthcare providers are just too busy to check for citizenship just won't cut it with the taxpayer any longer. It's time to get tough folks!!!

Could you provide more information on the forged documents
which are given to prove medicaid requirements?

Why do they go to the emergency room if they can get
    fake papers for medicaid?

Many groups of people are covered by Medicaid. Even within these groups, though, certain requirements must be met. These may include your age, whether you are pregnant, disabled, blind, or aged; your income and resources (like bank accounts, real property, or other items that can be sold for cash); and whether you are a U.S. citizen or a lawfully admitted immigrant.

I can't remember the exact wording but a law was just passed that should increase security. It doesn't go into effect until next year though. I believe you have to provide a SSAN to get a license, they eliminated the actual issuing of a plastic license at the DMV office. Instead you will get a paper license good for two weeks that is only good for driving. The two weeks is to give DMV time to verify SSAN and/or identity fraud. Plus having the licenses issued from one central location will lessen the chances the can come up missing and/or fraud.
