Driver's license checkpoint nets 12 in Escondido

    By: North County Times -

ESCONDIDO -- Twelve motorists were cited Thursday afternoon at a driver's license checkpoint in Escondido, police said.

A total of 803 vehicles passed through the checkpoint on Ninth Avenue at Tulip Street from 1 to 3 p.m., authorities said.

During the two-hour operation, 10 unlicensed drivers were cited and two motorists were cited for driving with a suspended license, Sgt. Geoff Galindo said.

Officers also impounded 13 vehicles at the checkpoint, including one that was abandoned in the eastbound lane of Ninth Avenue with the keys inside, obstructing traffic, Galindo said.

Vehicle accident at SoCal car wash leaves man dead

    Thursday, April 26, 2007

A man was arrested for driving without a license after crushing his boss to death in a vehicle accident at a car wash, officials said.

Wednesday's accident occurred after Classic Hand Car Wash manager Eduardo Rodriguez, 36, asked employee Elias Izara, 25, to bring over a Mercedes SUV to be detailed, police Lt. David Andersen said.

Izara brought the vehicle around, but then it lurched forward, pinning Rodriguez against another SUV before running him over, Anderson said.

Izara then crashed into a nearby clothing store and collided with a third SUV before returning to the car wash, he said.

"He wasn't their regular driver, and he didn't have a license," Andersen said. "He may have inadvertently stepped on the gas instead of the brake."

In addition to the arrest for driving without a license, a federal agent placed an immigration hold on Izara.
