POLK COUNTY, Fla. - A 20-year-old Venezuelan national, sought on an active warrant, was arrested last week in Davenport after a physical altercation with Polk County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) deputies. The suspect, identified as Paul Carreno Colina, now faces enhanced charges due to his illegal status in the United States.

On August 13th, PCSO deputies arrived at the Victoria Park apartments to serve a warrant for Battery Causing Bodily Harm from Osceola County. Upon locating Colina, deputies attempted to take him into custody. According to the PCSO, Colina immediately resisted, physically fighting with the officers who were trying to detain him.

Despite his efforts, Colina was ultimately subdued and taken into custody. His resistance, however, resulted in additional charges. In addition to the original warrant, Colina was charged with two counts of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting with Violence, and Resisting without Violence.

Due to his status as an illegal immigrant, all of Colina's criminal charges were enhanced by one degree. This legal provision increased the severity of his offenses, resulting in three felonies becoming five felonies.

Colina was booked into the Polk County Jail. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been notified of his arrest.
