VETERAN UNLEASHES ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
VETERAN UNLEASHES ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
BY DML (Dennis Michael Lynch)
ON SEP 15, 2014

Dennis:
Today, I came across this article, “Illegal Immigrants Risk All for Better Life”, by Ms. Jody Paterson. Ms. Paterson is a Canadian journalist, living in Honduras at the time of this writing. The title itself caught my eye because I believe that if citizens of any other country want a better life, they can and should work in their country to make it better.
Ms. Paterson’s article is a myopic view of a foreigner in Honduras, discussing how the United States should be handling (and accepting) illegal border crossers. Two key points of the article need to be addressed. The first is the irony (and gall) of a Canadian citizen opining on what is solely an American issue is not lost on me.
This doe-eyed, liberal-hearted young woman begins her article by complaining that a friend of her boss is:
“…currently experiencing the bane side of things, locked up in a prison in Tyler, Texas after she got caught last month trying to enter the US illegally. Prison officials are telling her she’ll be held in jail for two or three months as punishment, then shipped back to Honduras along with the 2,500 or so other illegals…”
As we U.S. citizens know, this statement, is a complete falsehood, told either by the prison officials or (more likely), by Ms. Paterson in her retelling of the story. It has been well publicized that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is just not locking these people up. They detain them, identify them and then release them on a “Promise to Appear” Summons toImmigration Court. This is the current administrations’ version of “Catch and Release” – for the same reasons…they only keep the “big fish”.
The other more dangerous (and silent) issue is one which very few American citizens understand. As a nation of credit, a lot of Americans don’t regularly see a lot of cash. Illegals on the other hand, live by it. Ms. Paterson details just how much cash the illegals are sending home.
“The blessing is, of course, the money. An estimated 600,000 Hondurans live and work illegally in the US, and the money they send home to their impoverished families accounts for a staggering 20 percent of the country’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product).”
To drive home the point, the GDP of Honduras is $18.55 BILLION per year. Twenty percent of that is $3.7 BILLION per year…That is THE problem with the illegal invasion. There are tens of thousands of U.S. jobs that are not being taxed, and that $3.7 BILLION is NOT staying in the U.S. Many employers are not employing U.S. citizens or those who are here legally because these illegals may work for the same wage, but the tax offset is in the TRILLIONS of dollars.
As a combat veteran, I’ve seen thousands of my brothers and sisters struggle to find gainful employment upon returning home. After they are turned down by unemployment and food stamps, they swallow their pride and try to find jobs mowing lawns, picking fruit or selling newspapers; anything to take care of their lives and families. Yet even these jobs are impossible to obtain. More often than not, especially in the border-states, these positions are manned by illegals…people who don’t pay taxes, who do get food stamps and who have no allegiance to this country. The money they earn does not stay here, buying a home or starting a business. It goes back to their “home”. Unlike our returning heroes, these people demand benefits, demand rights and offer nothing in return. Illegal border crossings are not about having “a better life” in the U.S. It is about the money and only the money. Ms. Paterson needs to spend some time here in the U.S., maybe in Texas, Arizona or Florida and definitely with a group of unemployed veterans and their families, in order to get a better perspective on life.
Warm regards,
Lauren
