(video) Donald Trump appears to have an admirer in Moscow
MOSCOW -- It wasn't quite an endorsement, but Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Donald Trump's talents and lauded his calls for better ties with Russia.
Speaking to journalists after his annual news conference on Thursday, Putin called Trump an "absolute front-runner" in the presidential race and a "bright and talented person."
He added that he "certainly welcomes" Trump's calls for better U.S.-Russia ties.
He says he will want to reach another, deeper, level of relations. What else can we do but to welcome it? Certainly , we welcome it." Putin said, according to Russian news agency TASS.
"That is none of our business to evaluate his accomplishments but he remains the absolute front-runner in the presidential race. He is an outstanding and talented personality without any doubts."
Putin went on to say: "In any case, whoever is [the new U.S. president], we are ready and want to develop our relations with the United States."
The Russian leader also commented on Secretary of State John Kerry's visit to Moscow earlier this week, saying that it signals "the U.S. side is also ready to move towards
a joint solution to those issues that can be solved only jointly."
Putin had said earlier he was ready to work with the eventual winner in the presidential race. And Trump has said he could work with the Russian leader.
"I think that I would probably get along with him very well," Trump said of Putinin an October interview with CNN.
"And I don't think you'd be having the kind of problems that you're having right now."

I've posted about this in the past so won't repeat it here except to say that for decades we've created an enemy out of an important ally, and nothing would please me more than for there to be peace and good relations between the US and Russia. Russia was our ally in WWII as was China along with France and Great Britain, which is why these 5 countries comprise the UN Permanent Security Council.
Perhaps this is the Christmas that we can celebrate the possibility of true Peace On Earth.

Wonderful.
The candidates speaking ill of Putin at the debates are an embarrassment to themselves and our country as is Kerry & obama. Putin is 100% correct re the cause of the middle east unrest and the resulting dispersing of low IQ muslims into western civilization on the dole too. Albeit a Saudi controlled operation.
We know KGB, we now Russia's history and we need to work together and be smart about it, not dumb and dumber. It is never surprising to hear of stealth operations by Russia; they plan ahead in many instances. Their country is vast and they have been exploring their Arctic and other technologies. They plan to be THE No1 supplier of organic foods while Monsanto tries to poison the world with GMOs. America does not hold a singular proviso on advancement and would rather hold Russia close as friends than enemies - china is another story entirely.

Imagine that! Trump's already developing good foreign relations and he's not even President yet.
I haven't noticed anything in the news about Muslims infiltrating Russia. Maybe a relationship with Russia would be a positive move. Maybe the UK will decide to ask the U.S. and Russia, as a united front, to save their very long standing history as a Christian Nation free from Muslim infiltration!
Go Trump. Make the world great!

Putin, Trump say they would both welcome closer U.S-Russia relations
Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump praised each other on Thursday, saying they would welcome an improvement in the now-icy relations between their two nations.
Trump - who holds the lead in opinion polls in his bid for the Republican nomination and was dubbed the "absolute leader" in the race by Putin — said that by working together, the United States and Russia
could work toward defeating terrorism and "restoring world peace."
The billionaire businessman's remarks were in stark contrast to his Republican rivals' rhetoric. Republicans have frequently taken to bashing Putin and have used his rocky relationship with Democratic President Barack Obama as evidence that the administration lacks strength in international affairs.
Obama has been critical of Putin, and called for sanctions after Russia annexed Crimea. In recent months, the two countries have split on how to fight Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Putin has backed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, while Obama has called for Assad to step down.
Trump, who called Putin "highly respected," has frequently argued that his business background and ability to negotiate deals would allow him to improve relations with Russia, as well as other nations.
Putin, speaking on Thursday at his year-end news conference, told reporters he welcomed Trump's desire for better relations with Russia.
"He is a very flamboyant man, very talented, no doubt about that. But it's not our business to judge his merits, it's up to the voters of the United States," Putin told reporters.
"He is an absolute leader of the presidential race, as we see it today. He says that he wants to move to another level relations, a deeper level of relations with Russia," Putin said.
"How can we not welcome that? Of course, we welcome it."
Trump responded that he was honoured.
"It is always a great honour to be so nicely complimented by a man so highly respected within his own country and beyond," the real estate mogul and former TV reality star said in a statement.
"I have always felt that Russia and the United States should be able to work well with each other towards defeating terrorism and restoring world peace, not to mention trade and all of the other benefits
derived from mutual respect."
Tough talk for Putin
Trump's response was a far cry from the stance of another Republican candidate, former business executive Carly Fiorina.
During Tuesday night's presidential debate, she said she would not even speak to Putin if elected in November 2016 until executing a series of military changes.
Chris Christie, meanwhile, has continually talked tough regarding Putin and Russia on the campaign trail.
"This guy's economy is in tank and he's swinging above his weight," Christie told Fox News in October. "And the only American he can knock out in the ring is Barack Obama. Put me in the ring against
Vladimir Putin, we'll do just fine."
During Tuesday's debate, Christie said he "would not hesitate" to shoot down a Russian jet if it interfered with airspace in Syria where the U.S. is launching airstrikes.
One of Trump's fiercest rivals, Jeb Bush, said Putin's support for him was evidence that Trump is like Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, a former secretary of state who was part of Obama's early
attempts to improve relations with Russia.
On Twitter on Thursday, the former Florida governor dubbed Trump "Hillary 2.0."
It remains to be a seen if Trump's tacit approval of Putin will cause even a blip in his polling numbers.
Asked about Putin's comments, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said they sounded pretty close to an endorsement of Trump. But he would not weigh in on whether a Trump presidency would change
U.S.-Russian relations.
"I haven't spent a lot of time contemplating the consequences of a Trump presidency," Earnest said.
"I think President Obama has effectively managed our relationship with Russia in a way that has advanced the interests of the United States, while also standing up for the basic international norms that Russia
violated based on their activities along and across the Ukrainian border," he said, referring to Russia's support for Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.
