Voter purge closer to happening in Florida

    By Dave Elias, NBC2 Investigator

The state of Florida is preparing to launch its controversial plan to purge non-citizes from its voter rolls.

It's a story that the NBC2 Investigators broke statewide in 2011 when we discovered non-citizens registered to vote in Lee and Collier counties.

Secretary of State Ken Detzner says there is a better way to make sure it doesn't happen again. The question now is will election supervisors endorse it.

Supervisors in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties tell us they will join an effort to purge potentially illegal voters from their rolls.

Detzner wrapped up a meeting explaining the new process last month. Tuesday he told the Senate Ethics and Elections Committee that the state will use the Department of Homeland Securities S.A.V.E. database.

It's data from several federal agencies including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Coast Guard.

State officials say it's more reliable than the 2012 attempt to remove non-voters using data from driver's licenses.

Other voter rights groups have questioned how often the federal data is updated.

Election Supervisor Sharon Harrington says she's comfortable with the new process.

"I feel more confident that the state is going to do a lot better job of providing us with the information to notify non-citizens," said Harrington.

Collier County Election Supervisor Jennifer Edwards wants to begin the new process sooner rather than later.

Edwards said she doesn't want the new process to interfere with next years primary election.

There is no word on when the process will be implemented.

    NO AMNESTY

Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.

Registering to vote if you are not qualified is a federal crime. Not only should we remove them from the rolls, they should also be prosecuted and deported when they are not citizens.

We really need a national election rolls database that is tied to peoples SSN and requires birth certificate or equivelent proof of citizenship to register. Las Vegas for instance is clearly when ask around Conservative minded (NOT religious conservative) but all my buddies are telling how on election day they are voiced out by tons of Cali people who have registered to vote here making it useless for them.

ALIPAC helped bust this story out nationally two years ago and we need to see this through in Florida, despite the efforts of Obama's Department of Homeland Security to keep the illegals voting.

If we can clean them out of the vote totals in Florida, we can then help other states do the same!
