Calls are coming in from the 48th District of Orange County, California are reporting voting machines in over 30 heavily Democratic precincts are not working and at most of these locations there are no paper ballots available as backups.

In some of the precincts, where machines aren't working, if there are paper ballorts, they are in Vietnamese.

PA Voter arrested for smashing up voting machine

In Pennsylvania, a would-be voter was arrested at a polling place in Allentown, where election workers said he smashed an electronic voting machine with a paperweight.

Authorities didn't know what caused the outburst. "He came in here very peaceably and showed his ID, then he got on the machine and just snapped," volunteer Gladys Pezoldt told The Morning Call of Allentown.

The machine's screen was damaged and it was not immediately clear if votes recorded on the machine could be retrieved. Police said the man faced charges of felony criminal mischief and tampering with voting machines.

PA-6 candidate Lois Murphy, assaulting a Jim Gerlach volunteer

PoliticsPA sources say CBS-3 has film footage of Benjamin Eisner, husband of PA-6 candidate Lois Murphy, assaulting a Jim Gerlach volunteer outside of their home polling location in Lower Merion this morning. CBS-3 has not decided whether to air the footage. Eisner was upset a Gerlach for Congress sign was in a camera shot with his wife prior to voting, and grabbed the volunteer.

Poll worker back in court

A Louisville poll worker who pleaded guilty last month to assaulting a voter on Election Day was in court again Tuesday on sex charges involving two young girls, ages 12 and 14.

The prosecution and defense were supposed to set a trial date for Jeffery Steitz in the sex cases, but the hearing was postponed after Steitz’s attorney, Steve Romines, withdrew.

Steitz got a new attorney and will be back in court Jan. 23.

On Dec. 20, Steitz was arrested on a charge of burglary and trying to sodomize a 14-year-old girl.

Because the sex charges broke the conditions of his guilty plea in the Election Day assault, he also was ordered yesterday to spend 30 days in jail for that offense.

Steitz posted bond in the case involving the 14-year-old on Dec. 22. But he was arrested again immediately and accused of sodomizing the 12-year-old, who lived near his Glen Valley Drive home, according to a police report.

The report does not say when that assault took place. He pleaded not guilty in both those cases.

Steitz has also been charged with possession of child pornography and use of a minor in a sexual performance, after police said they found a roll of film in his home with nude pictures of the 12-year-old.

Steitz is in Metro Corrections under a $75,000 cash bond.

On Nov. 7, Steitz was charged with fourth-degree assault and interfering with an election. Under a plea deal Dec. 13, the charge of interfering with an election was dismissed. Steitz was sentenced to 30 days in jail, which was to be conditionally discharged for two years, as long as he stayed out of trouble.

The assault happened when Steitz refused to process a ballot because the voter had not voted in judicial elections.

When the voter insisted that he did not have to vote for the judges, Steitz choked him and pushed him out of the polling place.
