NCLR planning in-district visit for CIR Feb. 15-21
[quote]
In-District Visits with Members of Congress
During the President’s Day Recess (February 15–21, 2010)
Take the next step and speak out for your community!
These are trying times for our nation. As Congress goes into the President’s Day recess, we need to make sure that your senators and representatives do the right thing for our families, communities, values, economy, and country.
Make sure your voice is heard! Schedule an in-district meeting with your elected officials during the President’s Day recess (February 15–21) and join hundreds of grassroots leaders throughout the country urging for reform to the immigration system that will strengthen our economy.
Take the next step—you can make a difference!
To set up your own meeting during the President’s Day congressional recess, follow these easy steps:
I. BEFORE THE MEETING
Find out who represents you in Congress. Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to find out who your senators and representatives are. You can also go to www.house.gov and www.senate.gov to search for your elected officials by ZIP code.
o Conduct a background check. Refer to online biographical sketches or check campaign statements, news articles, or additional sources of information to learn the congressional member’s occupation, religion, political and social memberships, areas of interest, and positions on issues such as the economy, health care, the environment, and immigration. This information can help inform how you approach your meeting.
o Check in with NCLR. There are valuable resources in Washington, DC and elsewhere with background knowledge on the roles that representatives and senators have played in the past on important pieces of legislation. Please register your visit at www.nclr.org/InDistrictVisits so NCLR staff can provide you with materials and updated information leading up to the visit.
Schedule a meeting. Call and ask to speak to the member’s scheduler in your home state/district, or write a letter to request a meeting during the President’s Day recess (February 15–21). To find the member’s in-district contact information, call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
A sample letter to request a meeting can be found below. When you speak to the scheduler, explain that:
o You are a constituent from X (city or town in their district/state).
o You would like to set up an appointment to meet with your representative/senator (or his/her staff) and are interested in discussing immigration.
o You will be attending the meeting with X number of leaders and/or students from your state/district.
If the office does not respond to you, call or write again and be persistent! Remember, they are public servants.
Determine who should be in the meeting. Who best represents your organization or coalition and can also help build a relationship with this member of Congress? Are there close allies who could build trust or respect with this member of Congress if they came? Is there a family that is directly affected by the issue at hand? Be sure to assign roles to participants, including the lead/facilitator.
Prepare your materials. Please register your visit at www.nclr.org/InDistrictVisits to receive materials to give to your member of Congress. You may also want to include other materials, such as news clippings of relevant local events.
II. DURING THE MEETING
Introduce yourselves and exchange credentials. In five minutes or less, explain what groups are represented, their membership, and other information that the member or staffer should know about those who attend the meeting. Share your stories: What connects you to this issue? Why is it important for your family or community?
Get the contact information and card for any staffers you meet with.
Make your ask. Your ask should be a direct question such as, “Will you support immigration reform when it comes for a vote?â€

Email and FAX to your Senators (you can go to www.congress.org) to STOP SENATE BILL 9 (SB 9) "THE REID AMNESTY BILL":
Whereas, Thousands of Illegal Immigrants cross our borders, unchecked, every single day; and
Whereas, Many of these Illegal Immigrants engage in criminal behavior, are active in violent gangs, and even pose a serious National Security threat in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks; and
Whereas, The "Reid Amnesty Bill" would give permanent residency to these and millions of other illegal aliens, all of whom have broken the law by entering the United States with NO DOCUMENTATION
I Hereby, Petition the 111th Senate of the United States of America to vote NO on S.9, the "Reid Amnesty Bill".
Signed,
(Your Name)

IRS!! Where are you? Why does National Council of La Raza still have its 501 C 3 tax-exempt status when it has violated US tax code governing tax-exempt "charities" for at least 5 years that I'm been tracking this dishonest corrupt anti-American LOBBYING and POLITICAL ACTION organization?
How about we pass a law that sentences the Secretary of the Treasury to prison for 20 years for every organization he/she fails to shut down that's smuggling illegal aliens into our Congress on President's Day? Hey! How about we pass a law that sentences every Congresscritter receiving a smuggled illegal alien in our US Congressional properties or elsewhere for 30 years?
How about that??!!
Wake Up America! Take It Back! Shut down these vile 501 C 3 political action committees posing fraudulently as "charities" and kick every Congresscritter meeting with illegal aliens and/or their smugglers on "immigration reform" butt to the curb in 2010, 2012 and 2014, and end this treason once and for all.

I wonder what happens to a bill when its sponsor and 1/3 of its co-sponsors are thrown out of the Senate on November 2, 2010?

Where the real fight is
The latest is Slight-Of-Hand Amnesty, or in other words Amnesty through "Comprehensive Immigration Reform".
Give amnesty to people who were brought here illeally by their parents, while claiming all new illegal immigration will be blocked by using E Verify. Politicians then can claim they are tough on illegal immigration.
Sounds good? LOL.
The kids brought here illegally, once legal, will then sponsor their illegal parents.
Also the anchor babies of illegal aliens will sponsor their illegal parents.
Our immigration laws will only be enforce for new illegal people coming in... by having E Verify only for new hires, NOT FOR CURRENT EMPLOYEES, so the illegal aliens here can stay here while waiting for their kids to make them legal.
So illegal aliens currently here become legal in "by following the rules" as Obama so sucinctly put it.
We should be exposing Amnesty through Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
It is Slight of Hand Amnesty.
We should be demanding to know why our elected reps are giving preferntial treatment to foreign lawbreakers over American citizens when it comes to jobs.
We should be demanding to know whose taxes are going to increase to pay for all the unfunded social entitlements 20-30 million illlegal aliens will receive with this Amnesty through Comprehensive Immigration Reform?
We should be demanding to know why should we reward illegal behavior by allowing these parents to stay here illegally while their kids go t hrough the process to bring them in legally? Legal immigrants don't get that option, and they have obeyed the law.
We should be demanding to know why Latinos are to be given a greater right to family reunfication by Amnesty through Comprehensive Immigration Reform that Americans of other races and ethnic groups? Per the DHS, amost all illegals are Latino. Isn't that racist? Doesn't that violate our constitution's anti racism and equal protection of the laws clauses?Take a stand or all there will be left to do is to ask the last person in the country we once called America to lower the flag one last time.

I wish the members of You Don't Speak for Me and the hispanic members of Alipac could get together and do In-District Visits with Members of Congress during the same time that the NCLR was visiting.
