What do you all think about the SPP?

What do you all think about the Security & Protection Partnership (SPP) of North America? I ask because I wrote to Senator Burr of NC to see what he'd have to say about this, and I am NOT comforted by his response!

The plan to circumvent the Teamsters and Longshoremen unions goes beyond just that. Once the plan is in full swing, anything can be shipped here from anywhere and will not be checked or screened until it gets to Kansas City, MO, where the councilpeople of that city have said that Kansas City cannot operate as a 'Point of Entry' without that parcel of land (in Kansas City) belonging to Mexico. The SPP is nothing short of dropping our borders to import everything from underware to a terrorist attack. And we, the taxpayers are paying for every bit of it.

If there are Congresspeople who claim that they have no idea about this plan, then they have no business in office. It's their responsibility to be in the know.

    The SPP is bad.

I read the SPP shortly after it came out on this sight. I read about the North American Union and read a particular section about security. In it, our military will become the NAU's military and will not be governed by the Constitution or congress. My interpretation is a government that is socialist and has a leadership selected solely by the elite. In effect, the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, will cease to exist and all new rights of the civilian population will be dictated by this government. It means that our wonderful groups like LaRazza, LULAC, ACLU and others are unwittingly aiding them in completing their plans. Won't they be surprised when they find they will never be in control of this country.

Senator Burr's letter on the SPP

    Dear __

Thank you for contacting me about the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) of North America. I appreciate hearing from you on this issue.

I believe partnerships between the United States and our neighboring countries are vital to securing our nation while ensuring our competitiveness in the global marketplace. In an age of increasing movement of people and goods across our borders, we must work with our neighbors to build upon our security initiatives and to ensure safe and efficient trade and travel.

During a March 2005 summit meeting in Texas, President George W. Bush, Mexican President Vincente Fox, and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin agreed to the SPP. The initiative is intended to provide security for the North American continent, while easing the flow of goods and travelers who cross the borders between the three countries. It also aims to improve prosperity in all three countries by promoting cooperation in a number of areas, including health, food safety, environmental protection, transportation, energy, and financial services. Presidents Bush and Fox, joined by the new Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, met again in March 2006 to review progress and to plan the next phase of cooperation.

Among the proposals at the March 2006 meeting was the creation of the North American Competitiveness Council. This Council brings together businesses from the United States, Canada, and Mexico to recommend improvements to North American competitiveness in areas such as the automotive industry and transportation, steel, manufacturing, and services. Additionally, the North American Emergency Management, one of the five high priority initiatives outlined by the SPP, will coordinate response and relief to natural and man-made disasters occurring in the three nations. Other initiatives aim to improve our response to a potential outbreak of avian influenza, to secure energy supplies, and to provide for effective border protection.

I understand concerns about the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) program, a joint U.S.-Canada and U.S.-Mexico initiative aimed at expediting commerce across our nation's Southwest and Northern borders. FAST was created in 2002 and currently offers pre-approved importers, carriers, and registered drivers an expedited process through land ports of entry. FAST is available to "low-risk" participants who have demonstrated a history of compliance with important security regulations. FAST participants can use designated lanes which ease the flow of trade between the three nations and reduce congestion and delays at the ports of entry. FAST lanes currently exist at several land border crossings between the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and plans for additional FAST lanes are underway now. It is important to note that this program has been in existence since 2002, prior to the creation of the SPP. I believe FAST maintains the security of our borders while encouraging a strong partnership between the three nations.

Leaders from the three nations are continuing to move forward in their combined efforts under the SPP, and the nations' leaders will meet again next year to assess their progress.

Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me on this issue. If I can be of further assistance on this or any other issue, please do not hesitate-to contact me or visit my website at http://burr.senate.gov.

    Sincerely,

    Richard Burr
    United States Senator

I think I would e-mail him back and ask if he has ever read the constitution of the United States that specifically states that the president can make treaties with consent of two thirds of the senate. Therefore the SPP is illegal. I have never seen the senate vote on this treaty. Bush should be impeached for violation of his oath of office as required by the constitution. Article 2 section two states this specifically.

“He shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur;”
The first requisite of a good citizen in this republic of ours is that he shall be able and willing to pull his own weight.

Holy crap! This is just more evidence that we (middle to lower class wage earning Americans) are being forsaken by our own government!
