Senator: Immigration Bill Unlikely in '06

    POSTED: 2:49 pm MDT May 19, 2006
    UPDATED: 3:06 pm MDT May 19, 2006

CAPITOL HILL -- One of Capitol Hill's fiercest opponents of what he calls an immigrant "amnesty" says, "The Senate should be ashamed of itself."

Republican Senator Jeff Sessions says a filibuster is unlikely, so a plan to rewrite U-S immigration law will probably pass the Senate next week. But the Alabama Republican also predicts a compromise measure with the House isn't likely to make it off Capitol Hill this year.

The House bill is largely a get-tough enforcement package that would make being or hiring an illegal immigrant a felony. The Senate bill calls for heightened border controls, a new guest worker program and a shot at eventual citizenship for (m) millions of illegal immigrants.

    Who is in control?

The only thing that bothers me is if no legislation is passed prior to November, with the massive numbers of illegal aliens being registered to vote by their advocates they could install a Democratic House and retain the Liberal Republican/Democratic pro-illegal alen base in the Senate which would spell the end of everything. I hope not for our country's sake.

I agree, it could be worst, because the Democrats want the Latino vote at any cost.

NO.......no Bill is much better. Better to have it stalled!! We can't afford to let these amendments thru in any form, no matter how they're changed!

If we have a BAD BILL it will never get changed in time

heard Sessions in an interview today. He was point blank asked, "Do you think there's a chance that the House will pass this bill?"

He said, "Yes. I'm afraid some might cave to special interests money."

I could be wrong - but I think if they do not pass a bill this time - they will pass one next time and they will all be secure in their seats and it will be anythin goes.

Bad bill now or bad bill later - I don't know.

I do say unless we get a bill through that absolutely says no amnesty - no guest worker - all go home - everyone of them needs to get voted out of office.

NO BILL now unless it's strictly ENFORCING BORDER & EXISTING LAWS.

We've a better chance at voting out the numbnuts before they take it up again.

    AND

They would be on notice that WE ARE SERIOUS. Their seats are not guaranteed!!

*** Taking a "bad Bill" is exactly what they want you to do!! Then it's over, folks.............the Illegals will get their citizenship.

YOU want to pay the price for that disaster by caving in?

    Not me.

    2ndamendsis, I agree

I hope any bill is stalled. Then in November we have to make sure only supporters of tough immigration law get elected. In the meantime individual states are doing something at least. Some states are now using state tax fraud as a way to go after employers that hired illegals and paid no tax.

Also, keep get Bush's poll numbers so low that at least he is psychologically impeached....if not the real thing.
