Where's the fence?
Whatever happened to the 700 miles of border fence that was signed into law 10/26/06?

Secretary Chertoff and the Bush administration have decided to substitute much of that 700+ miles with virtual fencing (monitors & cameras). According to Rep. Duncan Hunter the bill says, "the fence shall be constructed." Supposedly the actual bill doesn't leave any wiggle room ("shall" means exactly that, "shall"), but unfortunately that is not how the Bush administrations sees it. There are still some in the U.S. Congress fighting to get the physical fencing built. Actually, Duncan Hunter has promised, if elected, he will have the entire fence built within 6 months of assuming office. There is no reason not to believe him, especially since the bill has been approved by the Congress and signed by President Bush. All we need is someone in office that will follow the letter of the law regarding the bill. Duncan Hunter wrote the bill and he'll get the fence built. Honestly, if put in a position to do so, I wouldn't be surprised to see him eventually fence off most of the 2,000 mile border.

JDPA, welcome to ALIPAC!
So far they only built about 2 miles of the fence. It's become more than clear that BOOSH adminl. has no intention of ever upholding the new law he signed in. Of course, why would he considering he has hardly upheld any other law."Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the same results is the definition of insanity. " Albert Einstein.

had_enuf, MW, and sippy,
Thanks for the feedback. Looks like just another instance of this administration ignoring its responsibilities. I hope Duncan Hunter, among others, presses this issue to get this off the ground to start protecting the law-abiding, tax paying citizens of our great country.
The illegal alien terrorists planning to attack Fort Dix were living and training too close for comfort. But that could be happening in any rural area. Stay safe, stay vigilant, stay involved. Our life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness are too important to lose.<div>"The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. according to Wash DC wisdom fences and walls work everywhere but on US borders.... there are fences and walls in Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iraq...and the G-8 participants (including the US) have built a 7.5 mile fence around the resort in Germany where they will hold their conference next month.....
See picture of FENCE in this article of the Der Spiegel..
http://www.spiegel.de/international/ger ... 19,00.html
The Berlin Wall sure worked for 25 years.... the great wall of China worked for centuries....
The "virtual" fence matches this government's "virtual" border protection and "virtual" sovereignty for this nation....
Fences make good neighbors.... since our neighbor (the one on our southern front) refuses to respect our border, laws and certainly not our SOVEREIGNTY...
Send the 101st airborne to patrol the border until and unless Mexico stops the invasion...No soy de los que se dicen 'la raza'... Am not one of those racists of "The Race"

The fence? My husband's National Guard's summer duty, was to go to AZ to continue to build the fences that they started last year....BUT, things have changed...for the worst!
They now will be training for 2 wks. for going to Afghanistan!!!
He is retiring from his regular job next month, and supposed to retire from the Guards in Jan...now this!
All we know now, is they are to be called up in Nov.
I'd rather they went to the Border, he's put in his time, has health issues, and fought in Viet Nam.
So, the fence? I guess it's not important!Do not vote for Party this year, vote for America and American workers!
