A personal note from the Pro-Illegals

I have a magnetic sign on the back of my pickup truck that reads "This is America, please speak English". I returned to my truck after my boys soccer practice yesterday to find a hand-written note in the bed of the truck that said the following.

"AMERICA" is divided by North America, Central America and South America. America was founded by diferent people speaking diferent languages, ex: Portuguese, English or Spanish. Why do we have to forget them to speak only English."

I feel like I should write a response to leave in my truck at the next soccer practice just in case they come looking.

What would you do or say in response to this. Keep in mind that I have no idea who did it other than thinking it was a female due to fact that it's too neat to be a guys writing. Oh and by the way I didn't misspell (different) above, thats how they spelled it.[b[/b]

Leave a note saying: This is the part of North America where we speak English. Speak whatever you want on the rest of the continent, but here, it's English.

America divided by North America, Central America, and South America?

AMERICA is not divided. AMERICA is UNITED.

The "Americas" is a different word with a different meaning simply geographic. This show's how stupid our enemies our.

We need to start referring to ourselves as the UNITED STATES or UNITED STATES OF AMERCIA. That leaves no doubt!!!!!

I would leave a note stating:

IN THE U.S.A. WE SPEAK ENGLISH. I REALIZE LEARNING ENGLISH MAY TAKE A MODICUM OF SMARTS, BUT AT LEAST YOU SHOULD TRY.

I speak four languages myself, inclusive of English, along with French, Russian and Italian. If I were to go to live in any of those foreign countries, I would expect to speak the languaqe of that country I would choose to live in. But I choose to live in the country of my birth, the United States of America, where the accepted language among all states is English. This fact alone, the fact that English is spoken in all of our states, should make English our national language.

If I wanted to, I could speak Spanish quite readily; I can read Spanish, and on times when I have gone to Mexico, I spoke it, but it inevitably comes out in Italian, since the two languages are the most similar of the five Latin languages and I learned Italian first. Besides, the Spanish that is spoken in Mexico is quite different from Castillian Spanish... it's more a mixture of old Spanish and Aztec. The Mexicans there could still understand me, and told me it was nice that I was attempting to speak their language in their country. I thought to myself that, yes, it is nice of me to speak their language in their country, so why can't the Mexicans do the same when they are in my country?

When it is demanded by a foreigner that I should speak their language in my own country, that is where I really draw the line. A few years ago, I was practically threatened over the phone by someone who dialed a wrong number and began verbally attacking me because I did not speak "Espanish." It was so bad that I ended up calling the phone company to report the number that appeared on my caller ID. That is not the first time the demand to speak "Espanish" has happened to me.

The height of all ignorance in regard to this matter was presented to me several years ago when a rather indignant man from Guatamala kept insisting to my friends and to myself that we should all speak "Espanish" in America since this was part of Mexico. I assumed he meant California and the Southwestern States and not the whole country. I told him that this was part of Mexico well over a hundred years ago so get over it. I went on to say that in actuality, California and the Southwestern states were actually part of Spain's territories, as was Mexico, until the time that Spain ceded their northern territories over to the United States. (It's actually 158 years ago now since the Treaty of Cahuenga was signed in 1849.) To be fair, I believe that there was a codicile in the Treaty of Cahuenga about treating English and Spanish equally in the former Mexican states, but that was repealed several years later when the use of both languages proved only to divide the citizens; which it does even today. But I digress.

The Guatamalan man was arrogant and indignant; and he kept insisting that people in the United States should speak its original languages. I replied that if we did that, then English should only be spoken in the New England and mid-Atlantic States, French should be spoken from the Canadian border down to Louisiana, and people in the rest of the Midwest and parts of the West should be speaking German, Dutch, a bit of English, maybe Spanish, Portuguese and whatever other languages the original settlers brought with them. And "Espanish" would then only be spoken in Florida, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. That would go a long way in uniting the country," I bantered.

He told me that was not what he meant. He said that the people of the United States should speak the language of its original inhabitants. I replied that if we were to do that, we would be speaking close to two hundred Native American dialects of the various Native American languages that were spoken throughout the land and that would make it impossible for any of us to understand each other, let alone to communicate with each other.

The height of the man's ignorance or otherwise sheer stupidity came out when I replied to his comment that again it was not what he meant. He said that "Espanish" was spoken here first, and no one in the United States should be speaking any European Language... they should speak only "Espanish." That's when I looked him square in the eyes and replied: "So we should only speak Spanish and we shouldn't speak any European language? Where in the hell do you think Spain is?" He apparently thought that the Spanish language originated in Aztec-speaking Mexico. Totally cowed, he walked away not knowing what to say.

The point I am making in relating these actual happenings revolves around the fact that people only relate to their own circumstances and are increasingly failing to respect the languages and traditions of others; and no where is this happening more than in Mexico and with the Mexican Illegals who are coming into this country by the droves. They sure do understand English, however, when it comes to money and attaching our Social Services systems!!!

Every other immigrant who came into this country has learned the English language at least to be able to communicate with others. Although assimilation occurs at various levels, they all at least have learned the language that is primarily spoken in the United States and that is English... as it has been since the nation's founding. Because of the arrogance of Mexican nationals and Illegal Aliens, many people of other nationalities are asking why the Mexicans feel they should be treated any different from themselves; and they are right... the Mexicans should not be treated differently from any other immigrant. They should come here legally and they should learn the English language which should be declared a national language in the United States, if it hasn't been declared so already. Insisting on having any more than one official language only serves to divide and/or territorialize a nation, not unite it.
