WHY THE FENCE CAN BE BUILT FASTER

I lived in So. CAL when the Northridge Earthquake hit. Our freeways were costing us millions of dollars a day. With coordination and cooperation between, local, state, and Federal government they were rebuilt in record time with incentives and disincentives in the contracts. Don't tell me we can't do it for the fence.

    I-10 started construction 2/5/94 - Finished 4/11/94 - 74 days early - the incentive/disincentive was $200,000/day - The bonus paid $14.8 million

    SR14/I-5 Southbound started construction 3/19/94 - Finished 7/8/94 - the incentive/disincentive was $100,000/day - The bonus paid $3.5 million

SR14/I-5 Northbound started construction 7/9/94 - finished 11/4/94 - the incentive $20,000/day -finished on time - no bonus [paid

    I-5 at Gavin Canyon started 1/29/94 - Finished 5/17/94 South - 5/18/94 North-finished 33 days early - Incentive/Disincentive $150,000/day - Bonus paid $4.95 millionI

    SR-118 East Bound - started 2/10/94 - Finished 3/13/94 8 days early - incentive/disincentive $50,000/day - Bonus paid $400,000

It's a 52-page article with more info. I just want to say I'm using this information for NO EXCUSES WHY THEY CAN'T GET THAT FENCE BUILT AND IN RECORD TIME. YES IT'S MORE BUT WHEN YOU HAVE SEVERAL CONTRACTORS AS WE DID IN THIS CASE --- IT CAN BE DONE.

There is no reason that the fence cannot be built on time and correctly. The core of engineers could do it, an honest america loving construction company could get it done. Why is congress and the federal government trying to convince the American people that it cannot be done.

    how about this
you have 700 miles of fence to build
say it costs a million bucks a mile
Great you design it and you award a million dollar contract to 700 us contractors. each builds 1 mile and we do it all at once.

all 700 contractors have to hire y Americans and build a mile of fence.
we could have it in a month and we put Americans to work.

When you look at the cost of the fence against the cost of health care, education, infrastructure costs, costs to incarcerate illegal criminals we would be saving money.

If elected, Duncan Hunter said he would have the fence built within six months. He basically said the same thing - hire contractors to build the fence. I believe what little fence has been built so far is being constructed by the NG and military reserve units. It's no secret that our government is dragging their feet on the fence. IMO, the fencing that has been constructed so far is basically useless because it's not the double-layered fence we were promised. In other words, it's not the Duncan Hunter fence!
