Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik appears to have given Clinton advisor John Podesta a ‘heads up’ that Hillary Clinton’s State Department emails would be discussed at a House Judiciary Committee meeting, according to a new batch of Wikileaks emails released Tuesday.

The email, from Kadzik to Podesta warns Podesta about an FBI superior testifying to the “HJC,” and of developments in a Freedom of Information Act request for Clinton’s emails.

The information is fairly vague, indicating that Kadzik didn’t have much in the way of details about the hearings or requests themselves, but his communications with Podesta do show that he and Podesta had a working relationship that involved a flow of information about Hillary Clinton.

Podesta and Kadzik are close friends, a relationship stemming from when Kadzik defended Podesta during his testimony to the Senate over Bill Clinton’s Monica Lewinsky affair. The bond between the two came to light Tuesday, after Kadzik, who serves as the DOJ liason between the FBI and Congress, authored a letter to legislators assuring them that an investigation into new Clinton emails, found from Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner’s shared laptop, would proceed quickly and efficiently.

Republicans quickly called Kadzik’s proximity to the case into question; while Kadzik may not be directly involved in the FBI investigation, it appears he is privy to important details, and is in a position to exert pressure on the FBI, if asked to do so by Clinton allies in Congress.
