    WINNING THE NUTRITION WARS

    By Investigating Journalist Jon Rappoport
    July 22, 2011
    NewsWithViews.com

I'm updating the last article I wrote on this subject, and giving you the prior articles below, because this is developing into a running commentary, and a mosaic about the silent war against nutrition and your freedom to manage your own health.

First of all, this war is ongoing. Right now. I'm not writing about theory.

So who are the major players? Let me identify them briefly.

The US federal government, represented by the FDA; Senator Dick Durbin with his new bill (S.1310) aimed at regulating the nutritional supplement industry more tightly and expensively and oppressively.

Large nutritional companies, who seem to be asleep at the wheel, allowing the FDA and Congress to ride roughshod over them.

Small nutrition companies, who would like to do something to ward off the federal government, but don't have the resources or personnel.

The people—you and I, who want to have full access to the whole range of nutritional supplements, who want the federal government to stay away from that area.

Now, the problem comes about because our allies, the large nutritional companies, are acting as if they're on vacation. They should be visible in this battle, but they aren't.

The FDA and certain members of Congress want to create so much red tape and cost for nutrition companies, the whole industry will shrink.

I have been down this road before, in 1994. That was the last time a crisis swelled to a new level—and the nutrition industry and the public pushed back and won a partial victory.I was told I was being too aggressive about the problem, and “insiders on our side” were doing the heavy lifting for us, so I should back off. Well, that heavy lifting was only partially successful in 1994, and that's why we're facing an even deeper problem now.

Similarly, now, I'm hearing that nutrition companies, the big ones, are feeling just fine about their lobbying efforts, they're working on the issue, and it will all come out well in the end.Generalities.

It's an odd situation, because, as any sane person knows, when your allies are more or less telling you to stay on the sidelines, and yet you don't know what they're doing to win the war, you're in the dark, and you have a right to suspect that these allies and friends are falling short.

    You need facts.

For example, one reader of mine has already contacted a nutrition company asking to know what they're doing to combat the FDA and Dick Durbin—and the answer was, “We're taking care of it. There is a coalition of companies. We're okay. You're succumbing to scare tactics.”

That last remark is troubling because we and the nutritional companies are supposed to be on the same side. Are we?

That “succumbing to scare tactics” comment is something I'd expect from a government official.

Which is why I'm suggesting that, as consumers, you write/call a big nutritional company you buy from (don't hit up the small companies) and demand to know EXACTLY what they're doing to defend your interests. You're spending your money with them; they should open their doors and give you the low-down.

And if you can't get satisfactory answers, write AN OPEN LETTER to that same company and take it public. Email it out all over the place and get it posted somewhere.

IT SHOULD BE YOUR LETTER, NOT A FORM LETTER.

This is important, because everybody responds to form letters the same way. Into the can.

And although citizen health groups can help (not sure what THEY'RE REALLY DOING, either), when you approach a nutritional company as an individual customer, it makes a different kind of impact.

“You say he's buys our products? And he's upset?”

    “Yeah.”

I'm perfectly willing to eat some crow here, if it turns out that these companies and their trade groups are really on the verge of forcing the FDA and Congress to get back in their caves and leave us alone. That would be fine with me. But you see, I don't know that. And neither do you.

I do know this. Another reader had contact with a nutrition company who assured her that “trade groups” were on the case with Congress. And, well, if that's actually happening and effective, it's invisible to me. I just don't see evidence of it.

So let's hear from those trade groups and lobbyists, too. Let's find out what's what. SPECIFICALLY.

Are you getting the message here?

Here is what I'd call a reasonable open letter to a nutritional company. For heaven's sake, don't copy it. It's just a guideline, for those who don't understand the game.

    Dear X Company:

I love your products and I buy them. As a consumer and customer, I'm concerned about what the federal government is doing to attack your industry.I'm talking about:

    new FDA NIDA regulations;

    the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011;

the Durbin bill now in committee (S. 1310).

I wanted to know what, specifically, you are doing to win this battle for yourselves and for me—but when I contacted you yesterday, all I got was a bunch of generalities and assurances that you were “actively pursuing a solution.”

I'm afraid that's not good enough. You and I are supposed to be allies.

So now I'm writing this OPEN LETTER and I'm sending it out to everyone I know—with the name of your company at the top. The internet makes that quite easy. I want people to know I can't obtain satisfaction from you and your company. I can't get details. All I get are generalities. Why?

I don't see the level of action in this battle that makes me feel confident. And I don't intend to remain passive.

    Etc., etc.

    See?

It's rather easy, if you say what you mean.

NEW STRATEGY IN THE NUTRITION WARS!

JULY 19, 2011. Well, well. We might just have something here!

A few days ago, I wrote a piece (reprinted below) detailing the current threat to nutritional supplements posed by:

    FDA;

    the Food Safety Modernization Act;

and the new Dick Durbin bill now in committee (S.1310).

I suggested strategies. One was: contact nutritional companies you do business with as a customer, and demand action on their part.

These companies are apparently convinced everything is all right and their trade organizations and lobbyists are doing a swell job representing them in Washington.
So one reader took me up on my suggestion. She called a supplement company and had an unpleasant conversation with a rep, who told her, guess what?

These matters are handled by nutritional trade organizations, and the Durbin bill is no threat, and she, the customer, is succumbing to scare tactics.

    Really?

So my suggestion to her (and to you) is this: call your favorite nutritional company, and if you get such bland assurances, write an OPEN LETTER TO THAT NUTRITIONAL COMPANY and email it out far and wide and post it somewhere. In the letter, demand that the company explain exactly HOW AND WHY new FDA regulations, the Food Safety Law, and the Durbin bill are NO THREAT to them or us. Get it?

I have a feeling this would stir some action and finally open up the can of worms that has been festering under the surface.

As in: let's drag the debate out in the open. Let's put cards on the table. You bring your experts, I'll bring mine.

Because you see, as far as I can tell, the main problem here is that the immediate targets of the FDA, Durbin, and the new Food Safety law—WHICH ARE THE NUTRITIONAL COMPANIES—don't see this as a problem. Or don't want to.

And as long as those companies are resting secure in their illusory nook, our side in the war is going to be at a major disadvantage.

Now, if you follow my advice, email me with specifics and details. I want to know how it's working.

Here's my prior article on the subject:

    GOVERNMENT KILLING NATURAL HEALTH

    HEALTH FREEDOM ALERT

    re: FDA NIDA Guidelines 2011

re: Food Safety Modernization Act 2011

re: S.1310 Dietary Supplement Labeling Bill 2011

JULY 13, 2011. I just finished interviewing brilliant constitutional lawyer, Jonathan Emord, on my radio show. Emord has taken the FDA to court and beaten them eight times. No other attorney in America comes close.

So when Jonathan talks, I listen.

And I can tell you that the government is coming after your nutritional supplements. Again.

The radio interview is archived here.

Scroll down to The Jon Rappoport Show and you'll find it.

You need to listen to the hour of radio and get the link out there to anyone who has a pulse.

The new approach to killing natural health is through the bogus issue of “safety.”

There are three vectors in the attack—the recently passed Food Safety Law, new FDA regulations, and a bill now in committee sponsored by Dick Durbin.

They are all draconian. They use the issues of “good manufacturing practices” and “potentially unsafe ingredients.” The intention is to drive nutritional companies into the ground via a bureaucratic nightmare that involves inspections, charged fees, red tape, denying the use of many nutrients, and prosecutions.

Nutritional supplements are safest ingested products in the world. On the other hand, the pharma-system kills 106,000 Americans a year with its drugs. (See Starfield, JAMA, July 26, 2000, “Is US health really the best in the world?”)

In the next three years, you will see nutritional products disappearing from the shelves of your health food store, and then you will see a sudden escalation of that process, as funding for these government attacks swells.

The nutritional industry has been asleep at the wheel, scared, blithely wishful, and deferential to government regulators. It has displayed egregious weakness, and the FDA, which is an owned and operated subsidiary of the pharmaceutical business, has moved in for the kill—to eliminate its boss's competition.

The trade groups that represent the nutritional industry are the most idiotic, fawning, and ineffective bunch of lobbyists Washington has ever seen. To them I say: if I'm wrong, prove it.

The only rescue and hope is a sustained and very aggressive grass roots campaign launched by millions of Americans, who want free access and free choice when it comes to their health.

There is at least one online petition circulating. I believe the best way to go is the old-fashioned way: letters and phone calls. Not emails. When they can delete anything delivered online with a click, they feel nothing. When they have to deal with phone calls and postal carriers delivering tons of letters, they are inconvenienced to the point where they know something is happening to them.

    Flood them.

Make yourself known to your representatives, the FDA, and the White House.

In 1994, this worked. I was there. Slicker methods of communicating don't necessarily mean better ways of communicating.

The difference between what I saw in 1994 and what I see now is the difference between a tiger on the move and a tiger asleep in a zoo cage.

We also need at least one nutritional company with deep pockets to pour finances into this campaign, and to enlist celebrities who care about natural health to step up to the plate and speak out. On television. Celebrities who will be listened to. It isn't just a Twitter world.

Get the link to the Emord radio interview and this article out there.

In the last 15 years, since the explosive and partially successful Health Freedom movement, the public has been trained in Being Nice. This is operant conditioning. This is useless. If you want continued access to all the elements of natural health, if you want the marketplace to reflect your needs and concerns, if you want freedom of choice, instead of a corporate statism, in which drug-based medicine will be the all-embracing, all-ruling monopoly it intends to become—step up.

To the degree that the White House has claimed it is an advocate for health, it is a complete and utter fraud. The president should make it clear these new FDA regulations and the Durbin bill will never see the light of day. And the DOJ should take steps to declare major sections of the Food Safety Law unconstitutional. Sorry, but one organic vegetable garden on the lawn of the White House is not enough.

But don't hold your breath waiting for the federal government to bail us out.

If you're a consumer of nutritional supplements, write to or call those companies you buy from and ask them directly what they plan to do about this attack. Demand answers. And don't settle for “our lobbyists and trade organizations handle this for us.” That's like saying “we have no answer.” Make it clear that as someone who spends dollars on their products, you expect action now—otherwise, you'll take your business elsewhere.

If you know, or have connections to, celebrities who are advocates of natural health or rely on nutritional supplements, make every effort to contact them and alert them that their help is needed. Athletes are included as celebrities—many of them rely on supplements for health and performance.

    Walnuts Are Drugs, Says FDA

    Written by Michael Tennant

Seen any walnuts in your medicine cabinet lately? According to the Food and Drug Administration, that is precisely where you should find them. Because Diamond Foods made truthful claims about the health benefits of consuming walnuts that the FDA didn’t approve, it sent the company a letter declaring, “Your walnut products are drugs” — and “new drugs” at that — and, therefore, “they may not legally be marketed … in the United States without an approved new drug application.” The agency even threatened Diamond with “seizure” if it failed to comply.

Diamond’s transgression was to make “financial investments to educate the public and supply them with walnuts,” as William Faloon of Life Extension magazine put it. On its website and packaging, the company stated that the omega-3 fatty acids found in walnuts have been shown to have certain health benefits, including reduced risk of heart disease and some types of cancer. These claims, Faloon notes, are well supported by scientific research: “Life Extension has published 57 articles that describe the health benefits of walnuts”; and “The US National Library of Medicine database contains no fewer than 35 peer-reviewed published papers supporting a claim that ingesting walnuts improves vascular health and may reduce heart attack risk.”

This evidence was apparently not good enough for the FDA, which told Diamond that its walnuts were “misbranded” because the “product bears health claims that are not authorized by the FDA.”

The FDA’s letter continues: “We have determined that your walnut products are promoted for conditions that cause them to be drugs because these products are intended for use in the prevention, mitigation, and treatment of disease.” Furthermore, the products are also “misbranded” because they “are offered for conditions that are not amenable to self-diagnosis and treatment by individuals who are not medical practitioners; therefore, adequate directions for use cannot be written so that a layperson can use these drugs safely for their intended purposes.” Who knew you had to have directions to eat walnuts?

“The FDA’s language,” Faloon writes, “resembles that of an out-of-control police state where tyranny [reigns] over rationality.” He adds:

This kind of bureaucratic tyranny sends a strong signal to the food industry not to innovate in a way that informs the public about foods that protect against disease. While consumers increasingly reach for healthier dietary choices, the federal government wants to deny food companies the ability to convey findings from scientific studies about their products.

Walnuts aren’t the only food whose health benefits the FDA has tried to suppress. Producers of pomegranate juice and green tea, among others, have felt the bureaucrats’ wrath whenever they have suggested that their products are good for people.

Meanwhile, Faloon points out, foods that have little to no redeeming value are advertised endlessly, often with dubious health claims attached. For example, Frito-Lay is permitted to make all kinds of claims about its fat-laden, fried products, including that Lay’s potato chips are “heart healthy.” Faloon concludes that “the FDA obviously does not want the public to discover that they can reduce their risk of age-related disease by consuming healthy foods. They prefer consumers only learn about mass-marketed garbage foods that shorten life span by increasing degenerative disease risk.”

Faloon thinks he knows why this is the case. First, by stifling competition from makers of more healthful alternatives, junk food manufacturers, who he says “heavily lobb[y]” the federal government for favorable treatment, will rake in ever greater profits. Second, by making it less likely that Americans will consume healthful foods, big pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers stand to gain by selling more “expensive cardiac drugs, stents, and coronary bypass procedures” to those made ill by their diets.

But people are starting to fight back against the FDA’s tactics. “The makers of pomegranate juice, for example, have sued the FTC for censoring their First Amendment right to communicate scientific information to the public,” Faloon reports. Congress is also getting into the act with a bill, the Free Speech About Science Act (H.R. 1364), that, Faloon writes, “protects basic free speech rights, ends censorship of science, and enables the natural health products community to share peer-reviewed scientific findings with the public.”

Of course, if the Constitution were being followed as intended, none of this would be necessary. The FDA would not exist; but if it did, as a creation of Congress it would have no power to censor any speech whatsoever. If companies are making false claims about their products, the market will quickly punish them for it, and genuine fraud can be handled through the courts. In the absence of a government agency supposedly guaranteeing the safety of their food and drugs and the truthfulness of producers’ claims, consumers would become more discerning, as indeed they already are becoming despite the FDA’s attempts to prevent the dissemination of scientific research. Besides, as Faloon observed, “If anyone still thinks that federal agencies like the FDA protect the public, this proclamation that healthy foods are illegal drugs exposes the government’s sordid charade.”

Stratford Smart Meter Killing Shrub http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsuP_WBBr2c&NR=1

    Sep 30, 2010

Three shrubs have been growing against the brick wall of this home for several years. They had such healthy and thich growth that a robin built her nest above the old electrical meter that had been here for years.

About three months ago, the old but perfectly servicable electric meter was removed and replaced with a 'smart meter' which sends information to the electrical utility company by microwave radiation signals.

This meter sends signals almost continuously, as can be seen and heard by the radio frequency meter readings. The damage caused by the radiation can be seen very clearly in this video. The harm to the shrub is much worse close to the meter and the damage decreases with the distance. At about three metres away, the shrub is quite healthy with bright green leaves. The leaves closest to the meter appear to be dried and diseased.

According to Health Canada, microwave radiation at this level, which is below their safety standards, does not cause biological harm.

The resident of this home has suffered sleep problems since the meter was installed.

KPFA radio commentators Layna Berman and Dr. Jeffry Fawcett of YourOwnHealthAndFitness.org lay out the case against PG&E's attempted mass installation of wireless so-called 'smart' meters throughout its service area. They debunk the bio-effects denialists who refuse to look at the massive scientific evidence showing that exposure to wireless radiation is hazardous. Their presentation of the technological, economic, biological and political context for the national 'smart grid' plan and the part 'smart' meters play in it is given visual emphasis with the live, simultaneous 'graphic recording' of cartoonist Brian Narelle of NarelleCreative.net. They lay out specific actions YOU can take to protect your home and neighborhood from PG&E's electro-smog assault on public health and democratic choice.

    UNUSUAL WEATHER PATTERNS PERPLEXING

    By Betty Freauf
    July 23, 2011
    NewsWithViews.com

In researching the unusual weather we’ve been hearing about, I’m finding a pattern of government intervention is the cause of many of our problems and well may have begun with HAARP. In the book Angels Don’t Play This HAARP (High frequency Active Auroral Research Program) has 230 fact-filled pages with 400 footnotes written by a leading opponent of this system, Dr. Nick Begich who sounded an alarm how HAARP, initiated in 1992, may be subjecting the ionosphere to a form of scientific madness! The July 2011 Newswatch Newsletter said HAARP is a weather-modification program run by the military. It uses Nikola Tesla’s patents from around the 1900s to divert the jet stream so that one section of the country can be flooded while another has severe drought.

Those not familiar with HAARP may wonder if this book would be displayed in the UFO sightings and alien abductions in the library. I have a cartoon showing animals that were on Noah’s Ark being elevated into the air to some space ship. The caption underneath says, “It’s just been one disaster after another this year…”

“At a remote facility ringed with barbed wire, a brand-new array of 36 antennas rises from the black spruce forest that stretches hundreds of miles across central Alaska,” says Mark Farmer in a 1995 Popular Science magazine article, “Mystery in Alaska.” This little-known Pentagon-sponsored radio-physics project is officially intended to expand knowledge about the nature of long-range radio communications and surveillance using the fluctuating ionosphere, the portion of the upper atmosphere extending from 35 to 500 miles above Earth’s surface but Farmer says that’s just the publicly announced part of the program. HAARP also has a secret agenda: pursuing more exotic military goals, such as locating deeply buried weapons factories thousands of miles away – and even altering the local weather above an enemy’s territory.

HAARP is jointly operated by the U.S. Air Force and Navy and in addition to what is stated above, some claim it has the ability to physically and mentally disable populations. Local protest groups accuse the military of mucking around with the environment and maintain that it is a dangerous attempt to control both the weather and the minds of U.S. citizens. I don’t claim to understand how it works but is it possible HAARP may be the cause of more angrier people today than ever before since the discovery of all this new technology? We used to be such a civil society but no more! Never before in my lifetime at least have we seen mass shootings in public places that seems to be an ever-increasing occurrence with the shooter having no remembrance of the event. And then there is the anger exhibited towards Casey Anthony. We still don’t know how little Caylee died but I wonder how many of those women angry with Casey have had abortions?

As a side note, on 7/17/2011, the day Casey got out of jail, in Annie Mailbox advice column, a grandma was concerned about how her 4-year old granddaughter was being given medication by the parents to “help her enter REM sleep” at night and the dosage was recently increased. Annie’s girls said, “Prescribing sleep medication for toddlers is, unfortunately, not uncommon these days…most pediatricians who recommend medication do so in conjunction with behavior modification techniques…” but for small children? Didn’t Casey’s dad say on the witness stand it was an accident that got out of control?

The citizenry is being indoctrinated by employment of the mass media, the public educational system and behavioral modification drugs. The old order is crumbling and nationalism should be seen as a dangerous social disease and less anyone thinks this statement is ridiculous, one only has to remember how mind control experiments by the Nazis started before WWII and intensified during the time of the Nazi concentration camps when an unlimited supply of children and adults were available for experiments. Afterwards, America brought many of those “scientists” to the U.S.

Totalitarian regimes of the past century were quick to use thought-control techniques on their subjects and to deem “mentally ill” anyone who opposed the party line. Since World War II, the left has had an unhealthy propensity to fling the term Fascism at any person or organization it doesn’t like. As a result, the term has not only lost its meaning, but its use in politics discourse has become a sign of mental deficiency on the part of those who employ it. This has created conditions in which actual Fascism can begin to grow without anyone having either the knowledge required or the courage to point it out. Orwell in his book 1984 reasoned if a government could control all media and communication meanwhile forcing citizens to speak in a politically-controlled jargon would help to blunt independent thinking. Michael Savage in his 2005 book Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder says, “During the ‘permissive sixties’ the left started to change the meaning of words…everything which was once deviant is now presented as normal.” Matt. 13:15 says this people’s hearts have become calloused and their ears are dull of hearing and their eyes they have closed…

As early as 1996 it was noted that since the start of the HAARP project, the U.S. Southwest had experienced the worst drought in history while others parts were having flash floods.

In the March 12, 1990 New American magazine had an article about Missouri’s War on Property and the battle royal that was brewing in Missouri over land and water rights. It was beginning to look a lot like an old-fashioned nineteenth-century range war. Only this time it wasn’t ranchers versus sodbusters, or cattlemen versus sheep men but more Marxist class warfare. The lines were being drawn between urban dwellers, who have never gotten dirt under their fingernails, and rural dwellers that want to preserve the land for future generations. It was landowners, farmers, ranchers, loggers, miners and sportsmen on the one hand and environmental leftist organizations and media on the other. The article says these city “environmentalists” usually have a distorted idea placed in their heads full of mush by the likes of former V.P. Al Gore of what the environment is all about, and are all too willing to impose their misguided notions on the rural population, who bear the brunt of their folly.

The population reduction crowd can reduce the numbers by using the weather as a terrorist tool, i.e. earthquakes, tsunami, tornadoes, floods, famine, etc. Some may say God controls the weather and He causes these catastrophes to get our attention but there are those “scientists” who work to replace God - cloning for example.

When we have a drought or a flood it affects the food supply and soon we’ll be having food shortages causing more anger and disruption of society. While we were captivated over the Casey Anthony murder trial and naked crotch shots of Congressman Anthony Wiener, President Obama’s Executive Order 13575 signed on June 9, 2011 took over 16% of our rural farmland. William Engdahl wrote in Financial Sense that we should get used to living without food and how our emergency reserves are being eliminated. And the United Nations is seeking to tax and control the food markets as well as punishing parents for their obese children.

In 1968, President Lyndon Baines Johnson signed the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act into law. The legislation banned or severely restricted dams on designated rivers and gave the government the power of eminent domain to acquire land and scenic easements along the river corridors. More rivers were targeted for federal takeover but Missourians had seen and experienced enough federal intervention to know they didn’t want any more.

All other attempts to annex more waterways for federal “protections,” were soundly defeated. Then, in 1988 when one term Republican President George Bush, Sr. was elected and on the twentieth anniversary of the signing of the Wild and Scene Rivers Act, the federal government announced that it was studying as many as 400 more rivers, some in Missouri, for inclusion in the federal system.

So let’s leap forward to February 18, 2011 when experts for USA TODAY warned of major flooding and no chance to “dry out” that could run from mid-March well into April. Even in the Pacific Northwest, the subsidized stupid wind turbines (windmills) that have been built along our beautiful, scenic Columbia River Gorge are not generating power because an unusually large snow fall melting into the rivers finds electricity being generated through the dams which also help with flood control. So the taxpayers pay again for the idea some “greenie” had for building these windmills that now remain idol while the owners of the property on which they were built will still receive their “rental” payments and they are planning to expand them in Central Oregon.

Some sixty years ago, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) began the process of taming the Missouri by constructing a series of six dams. The idea was simple: massive dams at the top moderating flow to the smaller dams below, generating electricity while providing desperately needed control of the river’s devastating floods. The stable flow of water allowed for the construction of the concrete and earthen levees that protected more than 10 million people who reside and work within the river’s reach. It allowed millions of acres of floodplain to become useful for farming and development. In fact, these uses were encouraged by our government, which took credit for the resulting economic boom. By nearly all measures, the project was a great success.

The July 2011 Newswatch newsletter also reminded us that the flooding in 2011 covered the rich farming soil of the breadbasket of the world: Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Missouri, etc. Farmers carry insurance on their crops to cover some unknown “Act of God”; therefore, they get paid and do not go bankrupt. After this great catastrophe of flooding, the Federal Government refuses to pay off the insured farmers. Why? The federal government is sending out letters to all flooded-out farmers in the Missouri River flood plain notifying them the Army Corps of Engineers will offer to buy their land (remember 1968/Johnson eminent domain above) And strangely enough, the newsletter mentions billionaire George Soros who appears to be investing in farm ground through the same puppet company he used to get into the grain elevator and fertilizer business – Ospraie Capital Management.

While one group lobbied on the outside, the “useful idiots” called environmentalists methodically gained strength throughout the sixties and seventies infiltrating the Environmental Protection Agency. President Ronald Reagan’s opposition to the “greenie” Communist agenda and his appointment of James Watt as Secretary of the Interior brought the wrath of God on Watt and his wife who wrote about their life in a pressure cooker because of her husband’s efforts to reverse environmental laws and regulations. After the harassment of James Watt, politicians eagerly traded their common sense for “green” political support. On January 24, 1990 Republican President George Bush, Sr. fervently endorsed the idea of elevating the EPA to cabinet level status.

After thirty years, we read a 5/6/2011 AP article said blasting open a levee and submerging more than 200 square miles of Missouri farmland likely has gouged away fertile topsoil, deposited mounts of debris to clear and may even hamper farming in some places for years. Missouri’s Attorney general repeatedly tried to block the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers’ plan to break the levee that ultimately resulted in millions of acres of farmland being under water in the heartland. Old timers said it was the greatest flood they’ve seen since 1937.

It still wasn’t clear how much damage the intentional flooding would cause and how farmers would be compensated for losses to the land and about 100 houses scattered through the area. To make matters worse, a 7/18/2011 AP article indicated “several hundred soldiers deployed for flood-fighting efforts in the Dakotas were required to take mandatory rest breaks in the shade” due to high temperatures.

As the cartoon noted above, “It’s just been one disaster after another…”

An article from The American Thinker dated July 14, 2011 entitled, The Purposeful Flooding of America’s Heartland” by Joe Herring reveals how the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers threw reasoning aside and succumbed to the radical environmentalist’s desire to return the rivers to a natural (pre-dam) state. Why? Earlier adherents enlisted the aid of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to habitat restoration and the Clinton administration threw support behind the change.
