Rep. Fred Upton’s support for eco-friendly light bulbs could leave him in the dark in his bid to chair the Energy and Commerce Committee.

Conservatives on and off Capitol Hill are waging a campaign to show that the Michigan Republican isn’t conservative enough to chair the powerful committee that will be in the center over fight on health care and energy policy next year.

For proof, they’re pointing to Upton’s support for phasing out some incandescent light bulbs in favor of greener alternatives.

Right-wing talk show host Rush Limbaugh cited Upton’s promotion of eco-friendly light bulbs evidence that he shouldn’t take the Energy and Commerce gavel.

“This would be a tone-deaf disaster if the Republican leadership lets Fred Upton ascend to the chairmanship of the House energy committee,â€

Incandescent light bulbs are the most eco-friendly light bulb. They do burn out quickly and have to be replaced but they don't contaminate the earth in the land fill. I have some of the long life fluorescent and use them in certain locations but the light is not as good and they are not a total solution, plus they are a toxic hazard waiting to happen.

No one who doesn't understand this should be Chairman of any Committee let alone the Energy Committee.

    I support Barton.

The energy lightbulbs are very dangerous if broken. You also have to dispose of them in a certain way. Whenever there is a sale on light bulbs I buy them up. I refuse to use the "greener" bulbs.

Wrong person for certain. He is probably for big brother smart meters and the government takeover of our use of electricity and water.

Representative Marsha Blackburn, TN, and Rep. Barton of Texas are wanting to reverse the ban on incandescent bulbs. Please call and email to support them.
