Scam & Sham!!! Illegal aliens are allowed to attend college and still get subsidized by taxpayers, even after new law passes!!!

207 ASU students can't prove legal status, will pay more $$$
    Reported by: Associated Press
    Last Update: 9:28 am

Arizona State University has revealed that 207 students couldn't prove their legal status last semester and became some of the first Arizona residents to be charged out-of-state tuition.

The university was complying with Proposition 300.

It checked the status of the 46,217 residents who enrolled, said Sharon Keeler, an ASU spokeswoman.

The university said it has spent $115,000 to check students' status.

The voter approved Proposition 300 requires public colleges and universities to make sure the students paying in-state tuition are U.S. citizens or immigrated here legally.

In-state tuition -- $4,821 this school year -- is less than one-third of what students from other states and countries pay at the state's three public universities.

State taxpayers cover the rest of the cost of residents' higher education.

While the universities charged students who couldn't prove legal residency the higher rate, at ASU, few had to pay it themselves.

The independent university fundraising group, the ASU Foundation, gave private scholarships to a number of those students, which covered their additional tuition costs.

ASU President Michael Crow has said the scholarships totaled $1.8 million, enough to assist about 150 full-time students.

State Treasurer Dean Martin asked the Arizona Board of Regents to investigate the private scholarships after Crow disclosed them in September.

Martin, who led the effort to pass Prop. 300, said he worried ASU was violating the new law by mixing scholarships for illegal immigrants with taxpayer dollars.

Doing so would have turned the private donations into public money, which illegal immigrants cannot receive under Prop. 300.

The regents denied Martin's request for an investigation.

"They haven't provided the documentation that he requested," said Kimberly Yee, the treasurer's government affairs director.

ASU Foundation closes successful fiscal year

ASU Foundation closes successful fiscal year

If you contribute to ASU, you may want to start giving differently.

The ASU Foundation (ASUF) closed the 2006-2007 fiscal year with a 28 percent increase in core gift revenue, considerable growth in total and net assets, and overall investment performance that surpassed custom benchmarks.

Gift revenue totaled $104 million in support of ASU’s teaching, research and outreach missions, which represents a 28 percent increase over last year. This growth was accompanied by an impressive increase in the value of the foundation’s total and net assets.

The largest single component of the foundation’s assets is the endowment supporting ASU, a collection of investments and funds managed by the foundation.

Last year, the endowment provided an investment return of 19.1 percent. Its value as of June 30 was $476.1 million, up nearly 21 percent from $395 million on June 30, 2006. In three years, the value of the endowment has nearly doubled since June 30, 2004, when it stood at $248 million.

In addition to the endowment, the foundation’s total assets also include real estate values from properties like the ASU Fulton Center and the ASU Brickyard. The net assets are adjusted to reflect outstanding debt for these properties.

“Our asset value has risen steadily over the past four years,â€

Yet American students are having to go into debt to fund their education then compete for these illegals who will get preferential treatment because of their 'minority' status.

The insanity of it all -

    College is FREE in Mexico

The world-class NAtional Autonomous University in Mexico and all other public universities in Mexico are FREE to Mexican nationals. These illegal alien students are not being denied anything. They are acting like spoiled little brats. They need to be deported and they can go to school for FREE in Mexico.

    E-mail sent to Johnnie Ray:
    Dear Mr. Ray:
Regarding the expose’ at ASU by KNXV-TV Phoenix published at: http://www.abc15.com/news/local/story.a ... 34524bf518, please provide answers to the following troubling report:

QUOTE: While the universities charged students who couldn't prove legal residency (illegal aliens) the higher rate, at ASU, few had to pay it themselves.

The independent university fundraising group, the ASU Foundation, gave private scholarships to a number of those students (illegal aliens), which covered their additional tuition costs.

Doing so would have turned the private donations into public money, which illegal immigrants cannot receive under Prop. 300.

The regents denied Martin's request for an investigation. UNQUOTE

Just what the hell is going on at Arizona colleges and specifically at Arizona State University? ASU has willfully, knowingly and it appears gleefully circumvented the law by providing tuition and college expenses to illegal aliens, which is certainly to the detriment of American citizen students and taxpayers.

I am interested in your reply and wish to know if you defend this abomination or will clean up this travesty by following the required law.
