A two-week sweep across Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New Jersey, and Delaware had 248 foreign nationals arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in an operation aimed at “criminal aliens,” immigration fugitives, and repeat border crossers, the Philadelphia ICE field office announced Monday.

While many of the suspects were targeted for arrest in the Feb. 27-March 10 action, one person who was encountered unexpectedly, a 34-year-old Guatemalan man, “had been deported … on two prior occasions and had a conviction for sexual abuse of a minor,” acting field office director Jennifer Ritchey said in a statement. He was being held without bail in the York County Prison.

Ritchey highlighted the ongoing strain between ICE and Philadelphia, a so-called sanctuary city, which limits its cooperation with federal immigration agents. She said ICE had issued detainers — requests to hold prisoners beyond their normal release times — for several of the people arrested but that Philadelphia “released the individuals from custody” instead of honoring the requests. She said that created “a situation that puts the public at unnecessary risk.”

Of the 248 people, 88 have convictions on unspecified criminal charges; 32 have pending criminal charges; an additional 50 were previously deported and reentered illegally; and 18 are fugitives with outstanding final orders of removal issued by an immigration judge, according to ICE.

Six cases, involving allegations of illegal reentry and document fraud, are being prosecuted by the U.S. Justice Department.

Also arrested in the Philadelphia area:

    • A 52-year-old Lithuanian man, with three convictions for driving under the influence, who had an ICE detainer request. He was arrested for a fourth DUI on Feb. 23, 2017, booked and released to appear in court at a future date. But he was arrested by ICE on an unspecified date and has been held without bond at York County Prison facing deportation.
    • A 22-year-old man from the Gambia who was arrested by Philadelphia police and charged with aggravated assault for allegedly attempting to force his girlfriend into a hot oven during a domestic dispute. While those charges are pending, he is in custody in York, facing deportation.

Of those people apprehended, 197 were in Pennsylvania, 42 in West Virginia, eight in Delaware, and one in New Jersey, ICE said. The agency, however, did not provide a comprehensive breakdown of the underlying criminal charges and convictions.

ICE officials said the arrests were part of “routine daily operations” and not a ramp-up in response to President Trump’s call for a crackdown on illegal immigration and new guidelines for ICE operations issued last month by the Department of Homeland Security.

    I am so confused.

When my husband was a police officer, if someone ran out on bail, there was an automatic warrant issued for their arrest. Actually, just not showing up to contest or to pay a traffic ticket got an automatic warrant.

Warrants from one state was honored by all.

These are crimes committed in a state - against state laws. These are not federal crimes.

My first question is why in the world is an illegal alien given bail. By definition, an illegal alien is a flight risk. That is supposed to be sufficient to deny bail.

Also, are these people allowed out on bond? If so, what bonding company would bail out an illegal alien? If they are, they are loosing money - big time.

In other words, why aren't these crimes being handled just like any other crime? Why have we somehow made crimes, heinous and otherwise, by illegals some other class of crimes? They seem to have made them crimes that can't be prosecuted.

Our government(s) and legal system are all working against our laws and against the people. We are being flim-flammed.

Why not hold them, prosecute them and then if ICE wants to deport them at least they are available for deportation and they are off the streets and no longer a danger to anyone.

We have illegals in our prisons it can be done.

These criminals want due process - let's give it to them.

Illegal Immigrant Raid Nets Nearly 250, Say Feds

    by JOHN BINDER14 Mar 2017Philadelphia, PA16

Almost 250 criminal illegal immigrants, including those with sex crime charges and possession of drug convictions, were arrested by federal immigration agents in a multi-state raid.

Some 248 illegal immigrants with criminal convictions, along with many who had re-entered the country illegally after already being deported, were arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in cities in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Delaware.

In total, 120 of the criminal illegal immigrants arrested had convictions or pending charges against them; 50 had already been deported back to their native countries out of the U.S.; 18 were “immigration fugitives” who had final deportation orders by an immigration judge; and six were facing federal charges for re-entering the U.S. and document fraud.

According to an ICE news release, the arrests included:

      • The arrest of a 34-year-old male citizen of Guatemala with criminal convictions for sexual abuse of a minor. The man has been removed from the United States on two prior occasions. The man has been detained without bond and has been referred to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for criminal prosecution. He’s currently in ICE custody at York County Prison.
      • The arrest of a 52-year-old male citizen of Lithuania, with three criminal convictions for driving under the influence. Philadelphia Police Department arrested him on his fourth Feb. 23, 2017. The man was released from Philadelphia Police custody on Feb. 23, 2017, when a detainer lodged with Philadelphia authorities was not honored. The subject is being detained without bond pending immigration proceedings. He’s currently in ICE custody at York County Prison.
      • The arrest of a 65-year-old male citizen of Vietnam, with criminal convictions of three counts of manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver marijuana, four counts of conspiracy, two counts of theft of services, and one count of intentional possession of a controlled substance by person not regulated. The arrest resulted in the seizure of over 1100 marijuana plants that were located in a vehicle and a residence owned by the subject. On May 13, 2016, Berks County Court of Common Pleas convicted him of felony charges, which include: one count of manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver marijuana, one count of conspiracy, and one count of theft of services. He is being held without bond pending removal proceedings. He’s currently in ICE custody at the San Antonio Field Office.

The ICE operation also included arresting criminal illegal immigrants who had been previously let free from custody by sanctuary city Philadelphia.

“In the Philadelphia area, ICE arrested several at large criminal aliens in which the agency had issued detainers but the City of Philadelphia failed to honor them and released the individuals from custody — a situation that puts the public at unnecessary risk,” Philadelphia Acting Field Director for deportations, Jennifer Ritchey said. “ICE will continue to conduct targeted enforcement operations, whether local jurisdictions intend to cooperate with ICE or not.”

Ritchey said the raid was “just a small example” of what ICE is doing everyday under Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary John Kelly.

Great to read that but the story from philly.com on the 248 ICE detained from those eastern states, says those in Philly were not held & were released - no further update.

    excerpt:
Ritchey highlighted the ongoing strain between ICE and Philadelphia, a so-called sanctuary city, which limits its cooperation with federal immigration agents. She said ICE had issued detainers — requests to hold prisoners beyond their normal release times — for several of the people arrested but that Philadelphia “released the individuals from custody” instead of honoring the requests. She said that created “a situation that puts the public at unnecessary risk.”
Late Monday night, Mayor Kenney issued a response to Ritchey’s statement.
“Like ICE, we want to keep Philadelphians safe but we can’t do that if we are asked to violate the Constitution and if we are asked to destroy the trust our officers have built with communities,” Kenney said. “ICE continues to ask us to hold people without probable cause or without a warrant. Philadelphia and our justice partners pursue, aggressively prosecute and punish those that commit dangerous crimes and we’ll continue to do that. But we expect ICE to uphold our Constitution and respect Philadelphia for doing the same.”

ICE is now tracking the criminals down after being released - GOOD, that is an improvement. Makes their job harder and some may not be found. The mayor probably kept that part out of the papers so he could continue looking like a big deal to his demanding illegal immigrant followers.

The writing has been on the wall for a long time from our court system, and when you look at it, it's pretty simple. If you don't want to treat these people like everyone else here while they're here, you have to remove them from the United States.
