Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said Sunday the federal government needs to pass immigration reform as President Trump weighs whether to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

"This is really a symptom of a larger problem that remains unresolved," Abbott said on "Fox News Sunday."

"We wouldn't have this whole issue about DACA, if Congress would step up and pass immigration reform and do so in working with the president," he continued.

"We will continue to have challenges like this unless and until both the Congress and president step up and pass comprehensive immigration reform."

Trump will announce his decision Tuesday on whether he will end the DACA program, the White House said.

The decision comes amid mounting pressure and speculation that he will scrap the Obama-era program, which extends temporary deportation relief to people illegally brought to the U.S. as minors who applied for work permits.
