U.S. authorities detain thousands of people each year solely on the basis of religion, race or nationality, the American Civil Liberties Union charges in a new report to the United Nations.

The report says racial profiling is often applied to immigrants from South Asia and to North Africans suspected of being Islamic militants following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Submitted to the U.N. Committee to End Racial Discrimination, the report said profiling could involve harassment, detention, arrest or investigation.

Many Latin American immigrants are also targeted for immigration violations while others, including African Americans, are profiled as suspected drug offenders, the report said.

Chandra Bhatnagar, staff attorney with the ACLU's human rights program, told us, “Racial profiling was widespread and pervasive during the George W. Bush Administration and it continues to be the reality today. The Obama Administration must finally put an end to this undemocratic and counterproductive practice by supporting the legislation currently making its way through Congress.â€

Why was this submitted to the UN Commission?

Based on rulings from Judge Sotomayor, there is racial bias against white males. Was that also reported to the U.N.?

That is not racial profiling that is threat profiling. Maybe the ACLU would be happier if we stopped all immigration from Muslim countries, then there would not be any Muslim immigrants to profile!!

Well gee, do you think maybe that's because over half of these "immigants" ARE violating the law?? Once again if you want ACLU we can stop all Latin American immigration, then there will not be any profiling since we will know for sure any Latin American "immigrant" here is a violator!!

The ACLU is an Anti-American organization that profits off of our tax dollars.

If we can hire and promote based on race, why can't we profile based on race? I mean seriously, if your not doing anything wrong ...

Another contentious issue is ICE’s detention policies and practices, which have resulted in significant increases in immigrants being held in jails run by ICE, city and county jails, and private prison facilities.

In other words, they're upset because we're catching illegal invaders!

Go to hell ACLU!

When was the last time the ACLU defended the rights of someone who was not a minority? How often does the ACLU defend non-minorities? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Will somone please do a study on them and analize thier client base. They have to keep the prejudice myth going for their organization to survive. When they are no longer needed, they will disapear and that's their biggest fear. They will go on witch hunts and be discredited before they will be forced to close up shop.

Get over yourself ACLU.
