Governor Bentley says, “It only takes one terrorist…only one to do damage to a large number of people.”

He’s talking about the possibility of terrorists embedding themselves amongst Syrian refugees, something that he sees as a major threat. However, he says that he has no faith in the federal government to protect the people of Alabama.

He uses Tashfeen Malik, the female terrorist in San Bernadino whose radical ideas flew under the radar during her vetting process, to point out the flaws in the current screening process. He believes the system is inadequate.

Governor Bentley says, “she had been screened, she had been screened but they didn’t check her social media and so they didn’t catch her.”

Despite being sent a letter signed by church leaders across the state urging him to change his stance on Syrian refugees Bentley says he has no plans to do that saying, “I am going to continue to refuse to take refugees into this state.”

He says that until the federal government comes up with a better screening process he’s not taking any chances when it comes to the safety and security of the state of Alabama.
