Published December 15, 2010

FoxNews.com

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A U.S. Border Patrol agent was fatally shot after he encountered several suspects in southern Arizona, officials announced Wednesday.

Agent Brian Terry was killed late Tuesday near Rio Rico, Ariz., according to a statement released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials.

At least four suspects are in custody and another is still being pursued.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Terry family for their tragic loss," CBP Commissioner Alan Bersin said in a statement. "Our commitment to Agent Terry and his family is that we will do everything possible to bring to justice those responsible for this despicable act."

The FBI and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office are investigating Terry's death.

KOLD-TV in Tucson reports the incident occurred just after 11 p.m. Tuesday in the Peck Canyon area north of Nogales.

Prior to Terry's death, the last fatal shooting of a Border Patrol agent was on July 23, 2009, when Robert Rosas, 30, was killed by unidentified assailants while responding to suspicious activity in a known smuggling corridor near Campo, Calif., CBP officials said.

Border Patrol agent shot, killed in southern Arizona

The Arizona Republic/12 News Breaking News Team

A Border Patrol agent was shot and killed on Tuesday night near Rio Rico after encountering several suspects, federal authorities said Wednesday.

Agent Brian Terry, 40, was killed at about 11 p.m. near Peck Canyon, about 10 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border west of Rio Rico on the Interstate 19. Four suspects are in custody and one is being pursued, according to a press release from Customs and Border Protection.

Terry was part of the Border Patrol's Search, Trauma and Rescue team, according to Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office. Agents must go through special training and have at least two years experience in the Border Patrol to be accepted to the BORSTAR unit, according to Customs and Border Protection.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office are investigating.

Since 1919, 111 Border Patrol agents have died on duty, according to The Officer Down Memorial Page Inc., which tracks law-enforcement deaths.

In July of last year, Border Patrol Agent Robert Wimer Rosas, 30, was shot and killed in southeast San Diego County, Calif. He was the last agent to be shot and killed in the line of duty, though two other agents have been killed in automobile accidents while on duty in two separate incidents in 2010. One of the agents was 32-year-old Michael Gallagher, who was killed in September of this year when a drunken driver struck his car near Casa Grande. The other was agent Mark Van Doren, 40, who was killed in Texas in May.

The Nogales Border Patrol Station in the Tucson sector is the largest Border Patrol station in the country, according to the agency's website.

Agents are responsible for patrolling 1,100 square miles of terrain as well as 32 miles of the international border.

There seems to be an undeclared war between Mexico and the United States. So far, only one side is fighting it and many of our elected "representatives" are on the wrong side.

When 300 foreigners cross a country's borders illegally, that's illegal immigration....when tens of millions of them do it, that's an invasion!! IMHO those elected officials who work for the benifit of the illegal invaders and not that of their own citizens are TRAITORS. Americans might mount a defense if this doesn't change soon. This new congress is the final chance for civil enforcement in my opinion.

Well, when you consider things like illegitimate overseas wars and massive industrial food poisoning, it's not as if our government is unaccustomed to stepping over the corpses of Americans in order to serve their special interest masters.

Same thing with illegal immigration and the border.

RIO RICO, Ariz. (KGUN 9-TV) - The search continues for a fifth suspect connected to the late night shooting death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent. Four other suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the death of Agent Brian Terry.

Border Patrol officials confirm Agent Terry died early Wednesday morning after being shot late Tuesday near Peck Canyon. Peck Canyon is just north of the US-Mexico border along I-19 near Rio Rico.

U.S. Senator John McCain released the following statement regarding Agent Terry's death:

"This event is yet another reminder of the dangers the men and women of the Border Patrol face every day as they put their lives on the line to protect the American people. The increased violence in the border region demands that Congress provide the necessary resources and personnel to ensure the safety of all Americans, especially border patrol agents stationed on the border, and fulfill the Federal government's responsibility to secure our border."

Rep. Raúl Grijalva condemned the killing and further called on both parties to further address ways to decrease violence along the border. "Neither we nor our neighbors want to see the border region become more dangerous, either for civilians or the brave men and women who protect them. This crime should not deter the many peaceful efforts underway to improve the quality of life for people on both sides of the border."

CBP Commissioner Alan Bersin also spoke out about the killing. In a statement he noted "Our commitment to Agent Terry and his family is that we will do everything possible to bring to justice those responsible for this despicable act."

The incident investigation is being led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.

KGUN 9 On Your Side has a crew on scene and is working to get more information on this developing story.

NOGALES, AZ (KOLD) - A Border Patrol agent has been shot and killed late Tuesday night in an area near Rio Rico, Ariz.

Agent Brian Terry, 40, encountered a group of suspects when he was shot at, a release from the Border Patrol detailed.

Terry was waiting with a team of other agents in a remote desert area when a gunfight brokeout with the suspects, a union leader representing the Border Patrol said.

National Border Patrol Council President T.J. Bonner says the agents were trying to catch suspected bandits who target illegal immigrants for robbery.

Four of those suspects were arrested. One is still at large, authorities said.

Border Patrol officials and officers with the Department of Public Safety are scouring the area with K9 units in an effort to find that suspect.

The incident happened just after 11 p.m. in the Peck Canyon area just north of Nogales.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations is now involved in the case and is looking into the agent's death, Border Patrol spokesman Eric Cantu said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Terry family for their tragic loss," said CBP Commissioner Alan Bersin. "Our commitment to Agent Terry and his family is that we will do everything possible to bring to justice those responsible for this despicable act."

KOLD News 13 has dispatched reporter Lauren Burgoyne to the scene.

The sanctimonious and hypocritical Democrats and some RINO's are so concerned about the debt, deficit and taxes by opposing extension of tax cuts for the upper income class responsible for 70 percent of job creation in this country but want to ram the DREAM Act down our throats which will be an open borders never ending amnesty bankrupting and destroying our republic.

Illegal aliens from south-of-the-border are expecting something to happen.
Their thinking is that whomever is in the country when the Dream Act
passes receives amnesty. The U.S. Border Patrol reported that this past
weekend they caught over 200 illegals in the back trunks of cars, and
concealed in trucks. Several were carrying forged or borrowed documents.
Clearly, the word south-of-the-border is that something is going to
happen.

Also, we have the sad murder of one of our Border folk,

Arrests in Border Patrol Agent's Murder

http://www.sandiego6.com/news/local/sto ... 5tVOg.cspx

SAN DIEGO - Six people were in custody Sunday in the slaying of a U.S.
Border Patrol agent near Campo.

One suspect, believed to be part of an immigrant smuggling ring, was
wanted on suspicion of two murders and a rape in the United States,
according to published reports. FBI agents involved in the case remained
unavailable Sunday.

In Mexico, authorities announced the arrest of the alleged gunman, Ernesto
Parra Valenzuela, and four members of a smuggling ring. And Bay Area law
enforcement officials arrested a suspect Friday when a "ping'' from the
slain agent's cell phone led them to O'Conner Hospital in San Jose.
************************************* As horrendous as the agent's death
is, it is only ONE of the many crimes in the USA, by illegal aliens.

Secure the borders, OBEY CURRENT LAW, not only going after employers of
illegals, but also deporting quickly, any illegal aliens AS THEY ARE
DISCOVERED, and do not, as Napolitano did, giving them work permits in our
nation, when we have ~17-20 million AMERICANS, AND LEGAL immigrants who
are out of work.

VOTE NO ON THE NIGHTMARE (DREAM) ACT.

BTW: WE KNOW ABOUT THE TOLL FREE NUMBER SET UP AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE THAT
REGISTERS EVERY CALL AUTOMATICALLY AS A VOTE 'FOR' the DREAM ACT. How
dare you!? OUTRAGEOUS, and dirty tricks.
TIME'S UP!
**********
Why should only AMERICAN CITIZENS and LEGAL immigrants, have to obey the law?!
