Authorities investigating whether Border Patrol agent was kidnapped

LA JOYA — Authorities in the Rio Grande Valley are investigating a death threat and the possible kidnapping of a U.S. Border Patrolagent by an alleged cartel member, according to local media reports.

La Joya police have received a death threat against a Border Patrol agent, who was allegedly kidnapped by a person claiming to be a cartel member, according to ValleyCentral.com.


A Border Patrol spokesman said the agency has initiated an accounting protocol of all agents stationed in the sector, a process that may have begun as early as Thursday, the McAllen Monitor reports. At present, the Rio Grande Valley sector has more than 3,000 Border Patrol agents.


An FBI spokeswoman confirmed that the agency is aware of the report and will coordinate with Border Patrol to further monitor the situation and determine the appropriate action, if any.
