Awakening of national Latino civil rights movment declared
Hector Tobar writer for the LA Times and avid illegal immimgrant supporter while on the Travis Smiley PBS show on Fri Apr 21 2006 spoke of how the Mexicans in America don't want to completely assimilate but want to remain "Mehicano's". Tobar said that the "mehicano's" want to "change what it means to be an American" and define a "new American identity". According to Tobar, all Mexico is doing through it’s illegal immigrants is exporting the virtuous values of ambition and hard work to America.
Tobar who's parents came to the U.S. legally from Guatamala claims that in Mexico City, he see's more and more billboards and adds for english language study programs. He said the marchers in the recent U.S. demonstrations will not be intimidated or have their "mehicano" identities washed away.
Tobar claimes to be part of the "bridge generation" that he said has made LA the northern most Latin American metropolis on the contenant and claimed LA is actually a latin American city.
Tobar proclaimed with gusto that the fact that the last round of demonstrations were in non border states like Chicago, North Carolina, Atlanta and Wisconsin proves that what is really going on in America is the awakening of the national latino civil rights movement.
