An illegal immigrant who has been twice deported to Mexico led Mesa police on a car chase Monday evening that ended with his arrest, police said.

The man faces nine various charges, including burglary, auto theft, reckless driving and aggravated DUI with a suspended license.

The suspect, who has been deported twice and has over 25 aliases, allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's home Monday , police reports stated.
The suspect, whom police later identified as Pedro Angel Ortiz, then stole his ex-girlfriend's vehicle as police arrived to her residence in the 1200 block of S. Mesa Drive, police said.

Ortiz then attempted to evade police, ran eight stop signs and drove at high speeds through a residential neighborhood before he crashed into an electrical power box, police said.

Ortiz fled on foot but stopped and tried to punch an officer before he was arrested after a brief struggle, police reports stated.

The suspect is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, and also allegedly lied to police about his identity, police said.

Other charges Ortiz faces include unlawful flight from an officer, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license.

A records check on Ortiz revealed he was arrested in other states under numerous aliases for aggravated assault on a minor, driving under the influence and forgery, police reports stated.
