Border Patrol picks up kidnapper

TUCSON, Ariz. —Officers from the Tucson Sector of the Border Patrol say agents in the Nogales Station apprehended an illegal immigrant Thursday who had been convicted of kidnapping with intent to commit rape.

Agents discovered the conviction using the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS), according to a media release from the Border Patrol.

The man is being held for prosecution, the release said.

Also Thursday, agents from the Nogales Station picked up an individual who had been arrested for lewd and lascivious acts with a minor. Agents discovered the criminal history using IAFIS. This individual was held for prosecution.

In other Border Patrol activity:

"Agents assigned to the Sonoita Station seized a vehicle Thursday afternoon while conducting a vehicle stop. The driver attempted to abscond from the vehicle, which was transporting more than 200 pounds of marijuana, with an approximate value of $160,000. The subject, vehicle and marijuana were taken to the Sonoita Station for processing and prosecution."

Also on Thursday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Office of Air & Marine (OAM) helped Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - trained Border Patrol agents locate an individual in distress.

The agents were taken by air to the remote area. The subject was treated for dehydration and blisters and taken to Tucson for processing."
