Checkpoint Operations Net Cash Seizure

Tucson, Ariz. – After a recent successful cash seizure of $20,000 on Aug. 5 by CBP officers at the Nogales port of entry, U.S. Border Patrol agents seized $240,000 yesterday during checkpoint operations at the Interstate 19 checkpoint.

While conducting primary inspections, a canine team alerted to a tractor-trailer. Upon further examination at the secondary inspection area, agents uncovered 27 packages of U.S. currency stashed among cargo. The currency and trailer were seized. The driver was held for processing.

Border Patrol checkpoints, enhanced by canine units, continue to prove their effectiveness as part of the agency’s defense-in-depth strategy of disrupting the channels used for human and contraband smuggling.
