Border Patrol investigating in-custody death of illegal immigrant
Sister mourns death of Tomas Sanchez Orzuna as authorities refuse to provide details
    By ERIN CARLYLE

The San Diego Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol is investigating the case of an illegal immigrant who is believed to have died in custody earlier this month.

Rosario Sanchez Orzuna, sister of the man who died, says her brother was beaten by an off-duty Marine and two Border Patrol Agents then taken to the Border Patrol's San Clemente checkpoint near the San Onofre weigh scales just south of San Clemente on Interstate 5. The incident occurred July 8.

The San Diego Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that the man, Tomas Sanchez Orzuna, died, but said that the cause of death is still under investigation.

The Border Patrol would not comment on the case because it is under investigation, said Daryl Reed, spokesman for the agency's San Diego sector.

But the San Clemente Times already reported detailsof the case that Border Patrol agent Jason Rodgers provided. The Times reported Rodgers as saying that Sanchez Orzuna was combative during arrest. Agents sprayed Sanchez Orzuna with pepper spray. An off-duty firefighter helped the agents detain the man, the Times reported.

The agents took Sanchez Orzuna to the San Clemente Border Patrol station. There, the detained man asked for some water. According to the Times report, the man began to show signs of distress, so agents called a medical technician. The Times reported Rodgers as saying that Sanchez Orzuna went from coherent and speaking to unconscious over a period of seconds.

Rodgers told the Times that paramedics arrived at 8:03 p.m., and declared Sanchez Orzuna dead at 8:28 p.m.

Sanchez Orzuna's sister, Rosario, posted a video to YouTube expressing rage and anger at the death. Came from Mexico to stay with a cousin in Mission Viejo. Tomas Sanchez Orzuna lived in San Clemente. His sister said he had been in the United states for three years.

"I feel a lot of courage and a lot of impotence at this kind of savagery," Sanchez said in the video. "I don't want to see him remain just a statistic. I want this situation to be resolved."

Sounds like this person already had a medical problem . I'm sure she can find some Ambulance chaser to "Try" and sue the BP . Over what ?
He has the right to die if he feels like it .
aclu i don't think will jump on this one cause the autopsy should show a pre existing condition. Those BP agents are under a lot of pressure to not mess up . After all they are now the BP taxi service with the motto "We Care ".

I hope she should shows her video in Mexico so they understand our "savagery" up here.

Best to stay in your homeland, and if you're here illegally, the Most Wise Option is to gather, pack, gas up and hit the road to your nation of citizenship.

And if you aid and abet an illegal alien, you need to freshen up on our laws up here. It's illegal to have an illegal staying with you.
