Thread: Boehner: GOP Will Fight Executive Amnesty 'Tooth And Nail'

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- House Speaker John Boehner sounded a determined tone to fight President Barack Obama’s expected executive actions on immigration Thursday.

“The president is threatening to take unilateral action on immigration even though in the past he has made clear he didn't believe he had the Constitutional responsibility or authority to do that. And I’d just say this: We are going to fight the president tooth and nail if he continues down this path. This is the wrong way to govern,” the newly re-elected House Speaker told reporters.

“This is exactly what the American people said on Election Day they didn't want. And so all the options are on the table, we’re having discussions with our members, no decisions have been made as to how we will fight this if he proceeds,” he added.

Boehner reiterated that “all options are on the table,” when asked if the House might use an upcoming government funding mechanism to halt the the effort.

To be sure any effort to tie government funding to blocking Obama’s executive action could risk a government shutdown, an end Boehner said was not a caucus goal.

“Our goal here is to stop the president from violating his own oath of office and violating the Constitution, it’s not to shutdown the government,” he stressed.

“Our goal here is to stop the president from doing this,” and added “we’ll find out” if that is possible.

When asked what other options Republicans are considering, besides using the power of the purse, the Ohio Republican was coy.

“Every administration needs this and needs that, needs all kinds of things and you know, if he wants to go off on his own there are things he’s just not going to get,” he said.

Is a short term funding bill still being considered? If it isn't, you might try just defunding 'Bama's disdain for ordinary Americans. You could also tell the American people the truth about what amnesty will mean for American jobs.
