An unauthorized immigrant, who is a double amputee, was saved after being abandoned on top of the border fence.

A caller contacted U.S. Border Patrol about a man stuck on the border fence Monday night.

Border Patrol agents found the man on top of the border wall near Military Highway across from Progreso.

The man was holding on to the fence for approximately two hours, according to a news release. He was left behind by the group he was traveling with through the area.

The Weslaco Fire Department assisted agents in rescuing the man who had been clinging on to the fence.

The unauthorized immigrant was transported to the hospital for treatment after exhibiting signs of hypothermia.
