TECATE – Border Patrol agents confiscated 20 bundles of marijuana Saturday and arrested four Mexican nationals on suspicion of smuggling the drug.

Agents said the marijuana weighed about 245 pounds and had a street value of about $196,000.

The four were arrested about 10 p.m. in a remote and rugged area of Tecate and were using makeshift backpacks to transport the marijuana, the Border Patrol said.
The suspects told the agents that they were each going to be paid $500 to deliver the drugs to someone waiting in a vehicle on state Route 94.
