    Border Patrol arrests illegal immigrant with rape conviction

    Border Patrol agents on Friday arrested a Honduran national near Arivaca who had been convicted of rape in 2001 in California.

    Wilmer Avila-Gamez, 44, was arrested for “being illegally present in the United States,” according to a release.

    During processing, agents discovered am April 2001 felony conviction in Santa Ana, California, for “Rape by Force.”

    Avila will remain in federal custody pending prosecution for criminal immigration violations involving re-entry of an aggravated felon, according to the Border Patrol.
