REGION ---- U.S. Border Patrol agents seized more than 22 pounds of methamphetamine Thursday near San Clemente and, in a separate incident, seized about $270,000 in cash near Temecula, according to the agency.

About 9:30 a.m. Thursday, agents stopped a 1995 Toyota Previa driven by a 34-year-old U.S. citizen on Interstate 5, said Jerry Conlin, a spokesman for the Border Patrol in San Diego.

Using a search dog, the agents found 22 pounds of methamphetamine, which has an estimated street value of about $445,000, Conlin said.

About the same time, agents near Temecula stopped a 22-year-old U.S. citizen driving a 2002 Honda Accord on Interstate 15, he said.

After searching the vehicle, the agents found $270,780 in cash hidden in the passenger-side quarter panels of the vehicle, Conlin said.
