Carson defends Trump on Muslim ban

    By DIANA STANCY • 6/14/16 5:14 PM

Former Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson on Tuesday defended Donald Trump after he reiterated his proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S.

Carson said Trump's plan is based on the fact that immigrants from different areas of the world need to be screened differently, and told Fox News' Gretchen Carlson it's necessary to look at the "spirit" of Trump's words.

"The spirit is, we have to apply much more stringent requirements and screening processes to people who are coming from that area of the country," Carson said. "We cannot continue to risk the American people. That's really what he's saying."

The Fox host responded, "I think there is a big difference between having stringent guidelines, Dr. Carson, and completely banning all Muslims, is there not?"

"There is. But again, what the point is we all say, yes, we should have more stringent guidelines, and then we don't do anything different and we continue to let them in," Carson said.

"So his point is, let's stop the silliness. Let's get very, very serious about this. And obviously what one person thinks is not going to carry the day. There is going to be negotiations, a lot of rational thought processing is going to go into it, but under a Trump administration there would be very serious screening of these individuals."

Prior to suspending his presidential campaign and endorsing Trump, Carson in December called Trump's proposal to bar Muslims from entering the U.S. unconstitutional.

"We do not discriminate on people based on religion — that's constitutional, that's in the First Amendment, so we would never want to do that," Carson said in December.

Thank you Ben Carson, thank you very very much.

Apparently many Americans don't realize that the Constitution does not apply to foreigners not here. The US Constitution only applies to the United States, within our boundaries, and of course the entire Constitution applies, including the fact that under the US Constitution the federal government has absolutely no authority of any kind whatsoever to admit even 1 immigrant to live in the United States, only States have those rights under the US Constitution. The federal government's sole role with regard to immigration is to prevent and prohibit it after the year 1808.

So the US government has full unfettered authority to prevent and prohibit immigration of any kind whatsoever for any reason it deems fit. In fact, it has an obligation to do so under US immigration law. What it does not have is the authority to issue work visas, work permits and green cards. There is no power or authority granted to the US government to do any of that, and that is not a power that Congress can give it through their annual little bills that allow hundreds of thousands of work visas, over 1.3 million green cards, and almost 1 million student visas.

Tourist visas and business visitor visas are different, this is not immigration, this is not importing labor, this is international travel and is a natural customary event of leisure and trade. That of course can be restricted at the whim of Congress or the Executive Branch, but once that converts to a "residing" in the US, then that's beyond the authority of the US government. The sole authority for that is the States at their whim up to the time and point that the federal government would choose to block it by preventing and prohibiting it.
