Hutchison adds $100M to war spending bill for border law

WASHINGTON — A Senate committee has agreed to include $100 million for border law enforcement in a bill paying for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Texas Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison added the money to the bill Thursday. She also cosponsored an amendment that provides $200 million for NASA's return to flight program. The war spending bill should get a Senate vote next week.

Meanwhile several Texans Republicans in the House joined other GOP members in withholding their votes to protest non-war spending in the House's Iraq spending bill. That helped defeat the war funding portion of the bill for now.
