Democratic Florida Rep. Joe Garcia — fresh off being caught eating his own earwax on camera — was caught red-handed (or is it yellow-fingered?) in another gaffe this week, claiming that low crime rates in border cities with lots of federal immigration workers is proof that “Communism works.”

Garcia made the comment during a Google hangout he convened last week to talk about comprehensive immigration reform with supporters. The Democrat attempted to point out how, for all their talk about limited government, many Republicans are fine spending loads of government money on border security.

“Let me give you an example, the kind of money we’ve poured in,” he said. “So the most dangerous — sorry, the safest city in America is El Paso, Texas. It happens to be across the border from the most dangerous city in the Americas, which is Juarez. Right?”

“And two of the safest cities in America, two of them are on the border with Mexico,” Garcia continued. “And of course, the reason is we’ve proved that Communism works. If you give everybody a good government job, there’s no crime.”

“But that isn’t what we should be doing on the border,” he continued. “The kind of money we’ve poured into it, and we’re having diminishing returns.”

The video was uploaded to YouTube by the America Rising PAC, a Republican PAC founded in 2013 and dedicated to opposition research. It’s also the same group that originally uploaded Garcia’s earwax snafu.

Garcia, who is of Cuban descent along with many of his south Florida constituents, told the Miami Herald he never meant to espouse Communism — and was instead taking a tongue-in-cheek shot at his GOP opponents.

“This is an absurdity, accusing the son of Cuban immigrants of believing in Communism is just ridiculous,” he declared.

But Garcia’s district is already rated a toss-up by the Cook Political Report, and with their second attack on the congressman in a week America Rising clearly senses an opening in the south Florida district.

Coupling the “ew” factor of the earwax video with Garcia’s chirpy endorsement of Communism, Republicans now have a rather robust chest of opposition material to deploy in Florida this fall.

Rep. Joe Garcia, the Florida Democrat recently captured on video consuming his own ear wax during a House Judiciary Committee hearing, suggested that communism works while discussing the border with Mexico and the money spent in certain border cities during a Google Hangout, the Washington Free Beacon reported Wednesday.
“The safest city in America is El Paso, Texas. It happens to be across the border from the most dangerous city in the America’s, which is Juarez. Right?” he asked.
“Two of the safest cities in America are on the border with Mexico. Of course, the reason is we’ve proved that communism works," he added.
He continued by citing the number of government jobs, which he said reduces crime.
"If you give everybody a good government job, there is no crime,” he explained.
Garcia tried walking the statement back, telling the Miami Herald he really doesn't believe in communism, even though he expressed support for it.
"This is an absurdity, accusing the son of Cuban immigrants of believing in Communism is just ridiculous," the Florida freshman said.
The Herald posted Garcia's entire statement, in which he also said that spending money on border security makes no sense. He also pointed a finger of blame at Republicans.
When asked if he would walk back the comment, Garcia replied: "They would post the video anyway.... I'll continue to say it."
Republicans, however, didn't buy Garcia's explanation. NRCC spokeswoman Katie Prill called Garcia an embarrassment, citing a voter fraud scandal in addition to his recent comment.
“Congressman Joe Garcia has embarrassed South Florida families with his voter fraud scandal, his bad committee hearing hygiene and now he has the audacity to say communism works,” she said. “If his bone-headed behavior before wasn’t an indication, this irresponsible statement proves that Joe Garcia is not fit to represent the 26th District in Congress.”
Carlos Curbelo, a Miami Dade School Board member running for the seat held by Garcia, also took the incumbent to task.
“Joe Garcia’s endorsement of communism is both offensive and embarrassing to our community,” said Curbelo spokeswoman Nicole Rapanos. “The only thing Joe Garcia has once again proven is that he is unfit to serve in Congress -- much less lead an effort to pass high-profile legislation. Our district deserves an effective congressman we can trust in Washington; not someone who constantly embarrasses us and makes headlines for all the wrong reasons.”

Rep. Joe Garcia is famous for being the Democrat Cuban-American who toppled incumbent Republican David Rivera in the 2012 election. The Miami area seat had easily trended Republican and its voters enjoyed Rivera’s strong stand against Cuba’s Communist government.
Unfortunately for Rivera, Democrats were able to brew up a campaign finance scandal that plagued his campaign and he never bounced back. As a result, Joe Garcia was elected and those anti-Communist sentiments left with Rivera.
In fact, Garcia is now proudly proclaiming he knows how to make Communism work in America. Just give everyone a good government job.

Why Communism Works and Socialism Does Not

One of the most amazing phenomena of current political thought is the fact that only a very small percentage of people on the political left have a clue as to what socialism and communism are.
If one were to ask 100 college students-- students who identify themselves as sympathetic to communism and hostile to capitalism -- ask them if they would favor a system in which "government withers on the vine," a system in which there is no government, no taxes -- probably very few of them would say they favor such a system. Yet, that is Marxist communism, the communism that they say is superior to capitalism.


Communism works. I know this first hand. When I was head of a household, I ran my family under the communist system. From each of us came goods and services according to our abilities. To each of us, those goods and services were provided according to need. Thus, I went to work and provided most of the money. The kids did no outside work and ate well every day. The wife held an outside job, and both she and I shared the domestic chores (me mostly outside, she mostly inside).
I never complained when I had to do the heavy lifting. She never asked me to sew on my own buttons. It never even occurred to us to complain.
There was no equality in this. We didn't care about equality. We cared about taking care of each other, and the system worked.
So why don't we apply these rules to society at large?
Alas, large societies do not have the same personal dynamics as do families. Perhaps they should, but reality does not obey "should."
Recognizing this, the early communists in Russia instituted what they called a "transitional" system. Socialism was established as a temporary bridge, to get the society from its prior feudal system to a future communist ideal.
But socialism actually has the opposite effect. Instead of reducing government, it establishes an all-powerful (and ever increasingly powerful) central government, a totalitarian system in which anyone suspected of dissent is imprisoned in a labor camp, usually never to be heard from again.
Such a government will never -- never -- hand over "power to the people." Once you've tasted raw, total power, you can't let go. It consumes you.
In Western Europe, a more docile brand of socialism was adopted, for the express purpose of avoiding the brutalities of Stalinist and Hitlerian socialism.
For almost 70 years now, this benign form of socialism has entrenched itself in Europe, so much so that for most Europeans, the thought of self-reliance has become something to ridicule and fear.
In Greece, for example, which has spent every drachma it has ever collected in taxes -- and spent every drachma it has ever borrowed but can never repay -- the people demand even more government-paid benefits. The question of "where will we get the money" has no meaning to them. Let the government borrow more, let it print more, let it do something, but never cut my benefits -- indeed, riot to force it to increase my benefits.
Other European countries are gradually following suit. Its citizens continually demand more from government, but continually demand that less be required of themselves in terms of personal responsibility. Source

Florida Congressman Accepts Money From Radical Muslim Group

Emerge USA is a Florida-based organization whose unstated goal is to give radical Muslims a political voice in America. One way they do this is by getting their leaders placed in key positions of power. Another way is by making friends with those already in power. United States Representative from Florida, Joe Garcia, is one of those friends. He has accepted thousands of dollars from Emerge for his 2014 reelection bid, and he has returned the favor by helping the group raise more money.
Earlier this month, Emerge held its annual fundraising dinner in Miami, at the DoubleTree Hotel and Airport Convention Center. Featured at the event was Sayed Ammar Nakshawani, an Islamic lecturer from England who is a devotee of Iran’s deceased terrorist leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and who has called for the destruction of Israel.
In a speech found on YouTube and the lecture section of his website, titled ‘Sayed Khomeini’s Quds Day,’ Nakshawani states, “The shame in this world is that, if we put ourselves down to a two-state solution, we would allow a country which has broken 60 UN resolutions to have their own freedom of peace. It is barbaric that this Zionist state is allowed to continue.”
Emerge advertised Nakshawani in an event flyer as well as an Emerge-produced video of Nakshawani telling people to attend.
Given Emerge’s past, having this man speak was no surprise. What was a surprise, though, was that a sitting U.S. Congressman, Joe Garcia, would also be speaking at the event, even after the leader of his political party, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, cancelled her keynote address in front of the same group just two years prior.
One of the two co-chairmen of Emerge is South Florida attorney Khurrum Basir Wahid. According to his bio, Wahid specializes in defending “individuals charged with allegedly committing or conspiring to commit acts of terrorism.”
