Hmm, guess Trump shouldn't have made promises he didn't know he could keep. Furthermore, it's a little ridiculous of you or Trump to think Mexico was gong to pay for a wall directly. I and probably most other people never really thought Mexico was just going to willingly fork over the "wall" money just because Trump asked for it. Come on, really, do you honestly think Trump thought that?

Congress has no intention of funding the border wall. Heck, if things go bad for us in the next elections, we're certainly not going to see any funding!

During campaigns, we ask our politicians and political candidates to tell us what they want to do. It's assumed that if you're old enough to vote you've got enough sense to know that we have 3 branches of government and that 2 of them can stop or prevent the leader of the Executive Branch from delivering on what he wants to do. Did you not know that?! A campaign "promise" is a commitment to try within the power and funding they have. If they need funding, that involves Congress. If they need a law, that involves Congress. Even then, the courts can stop you. Didn't you know that?!

Trump never said Mexico would pay for the wall directly and I've never cared at all whether Mexico paid for it or not. But until NAFTA is terminated or renegotiated, it's not possible to pursue other means at this time. However, Trump wants them to pay for it, so after NAFTA issue is resolved, he'll figure out how to make sure the cost of this wall comes out of their financial benefits from NAFTA or a new trade agreement, because he doesn't believe Americans should have to pay for it to keep their criminals out of our country.

If he didn't expect Mexico to pay for the wall directly than why hasn't he already begin the process of taxing or stopping remittances? NAFTA doesn't prevent him from using a provision of the USA Patriot Act to do that. As for raising the cost on border crossing fees and visas, I doubt there is anything written into NAFTA that would indefinitely prevent that.

As for the rest of your comment, no need for a response because it's just assumption and conjecture designed to provide cover for Trump's failure on this issue.

I'm not familiar with the Patriot Act or these types of authorities, so can't comment. Based on everything else I know he would need legislation to enact the taxes, collect them, and spend them on a wall.
