Easley backs open admissions policy
He pushes admitting illegal immigrants to community colleges
RALEIGH
Gov. Mike Easley said yesterday that he supports a new community-college policy requiring that all campuses admit illegal immigrants, a decision counter to the views of the five leading candidates to succeed him next year.
A community-college attorney recently informed all 58 of the state’s campuses that they cannot deny admission to illegal immigrants, overriding a 2004 policy that gave individual schools the option to decide whether to admit them. But Easley said that the children of illegal immigrants living in North Carolina shouldn’t be punished for their parents’ decision to enter the country.

We need to check our local colleges. We have one in our county with a branch in my town. Interesting; the applicants need to know English at ours. Foreign students must call for further requirements. I'll call next week to see what those are.
Did see this...
Out-of-State Student:
1. A person who is not a legal resident of the State of
Illinois.
2. Includes International students and other non-immi-
grant aliens.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Computer-
based test: Score of 197 or above, Paper-based test: Score of
527 or above, or Internet-based score of 71 or above.
The application does require a Social Security number.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Interesting to note that nowhere in the article was there a mention of adults affected by this change. As usual, the focus is being placed on "poor children of illegal aliens who came to be here through no fault of their own".
The Governor attempts to extract pity from the taxpayer when he should instead be acknowledging the fact that instead of "slamming the door" shut, he is effectively swinging it wide open to fraud and misuse of government funds. Surely he realizes that now every illegal alien above the minimum acceptable age required by law can lawfully apply and train for jobs they cannot lawfully hold in North Carolina or anywhere else in the United States. With the diploma or other certification of accreditation earned here in North Carolina in hand, the illegal alien can apply for jobs nationwide, appearing legitimate and legal by nature of the documentation they present, courtesy of the North Carolina Community College system.
Last time I checked, the Community College system was created to offer continuing adult education and job retraining for citizens of the state who were not financially able to attend four year universities. The Community College system also offered opportunity to train and educate adults who were gainfully employed full-time, but were willing to attend part-time at night long term in order to better their economic position for the sake of their family. It is financed by the people of North Carolina, for the people of North Carolina. Out-of-state tuition is provided and charged at a higher rate to justify even opening the doors of the campus to outsiders from other states, and presumably was meant to facilitate a path to higher education for those who have recently relocated to our state from another state, or legally from another country. It was never intended as a tool to manipulate or justify inclusion of illegal aliens, and to use it so is a travesty of all that is fair and just in regard to the taxpayers of this state.
I am disgusted by this political ploy by our Governor and his staff, not only as a citizen of this state, but also as a graduate of the Community College system and as adjunct faculty, having served proudly in the very institution I still hold in high esteem to this day. Even my wife (a legal permanent resident and soon to be citizen of the US) who also completed her education at the same Community College recognizes the error of this decision and is offended by it.
Let's all hope the next State election yields some honest, logical governance, free of political pandering and emotional knee-jerk decisions.

tiredofapathy, you have provided an excellent analysis and factual description of what the system is designed for, how it was intended to be utilized and how the governor and the illegal alien huggers have hijacked it to pander to the illegals. Can anyone see that open borders is what is really meant by Governor Easley's vision of his open door policy for community college?

NC illegals in Community College
Why is it people act as though ILLEGAL means - we will overlook that bit of information - If you are in this country illegally you have NO RIGHTS to ANYTHING - so why do we keep bending over backwards and dishing out billions of dollars a year to these law breakers - if you came here as a child with your law-breaking parents - and are of the age to attend college - you surely know, at this stage of your life, you are illegal - so you either do the lawful thing or you milk the system and cry poor me!!!! How can we expect illegals to obey the rule of law if our own representatives go against it.
Stand up NC and take back your state.

Welcome Sabrina, and thank you for the great rally cry!
Stand up NC and take back your state
It has been very difficult to encourage the people of this state to action.
Sure, there is a segment of the population that is taking notice of the changes happening around them and beginning to realize the seriousness of the implications. Unfortunately, there is a far larger demographic that is oblivious to the problem, or simply chooses to ignore it in hopes it will either go away or someone else will handle it. Little by little, week by week, the pro-illegal forces are chipping away at the foundation of our state and our heritage with the help of the short-sighted liberals and the globalist protagonists.
Wake up North Carolina! Take the advice of a Texan who well knows what is coming to your backyard, and in many cases is already here! The key to stemming the tide in North Carolina is education, and every citizen who has learned of the danger needs to share, share, share that information at every opportunity. You can bet the pro-illegal forces are doing just that, and even their lies become the truth after they're spoken enough times into available ears!
Like Sabrina said, "stand up and take back your state"!

tiredofapathy - Here is some info you can pass on to your friends and family in NC - American taxpayers dish out 11 to 22 BILLION dollars per year in Welfare to Illegals, 2.2 BILLION per year in food assistance programs - food stamps - WIC and free school lunches, 2.2 BILLION per year in Medicaid, 12 BILLION a year in primary and secondary school education for illegals who can not speak a word of English, 3 MILLION dollars a DAY to incarcerate illegals (30% of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens.
Senator Jon Kyl quoting a Govermnet Accounting Office study in National Review Online - there have been 55,322 criminal aliens arrested 459,614 times averaging over 8 arrests per alien - Dept. of Justice expressed suprise at high rate of re-arrest - found that 73 criminal aliens (in study group) arrested 429 times.
The American people must realize that we are paying, in every respect ,for criminal illegals who could care less about our Rule of Law. We should be taking care of Americans first - but unless the PEOPLE scream loud enough NOTHING WILL CHANGE.
NC MUST stand up and take charge.
