Federal court upholds Arizona voter ID requirement
Jaime Jansen at 12:53 PM ET

[JURIST] The US District Court for the District of Arizona [official website] has rejected a bid by Latino and voter-advocacy groups to temporarily halt a requirement that voters show government-issued identification to prove that they are US citizens when they register to vote. The measure, which was approved in 2004 [JURIST report] in an effort to stop voter fraud, is part of Arizona's Proposition 200 [PDF text], which also denies some state public benefits to illegal immigrants and makes it a crime for public employees to fail to report undocumented immigrants who seek benefits outlined in the legislation. Judge Roslyn Silver sided with the government, writing that "determining whether an individual is a United States citizen is of paramount importance when determining his or her eligibility to vote." Several advocacy groups, including the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project and Valle Del Sol [advocacy websites], had argued [press release] that requiring identification effectively creates a poll tax on Arizona residents that cannot afford proper identification.

The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit last year refused to block the implementation [JURIST report] of Proposition 200 in a separate lawsuit. Tuesday's Arizona Republic has more.

Great, another baby step in fighting off pro-illegal immigrant advocacy groups. They may say one thing, but we really know what this is all about - relaxing the laws so illegals can be registered to vote.

I can't wait for them to run out of money! They are going to keep picking at us but it is costing them mucho dinero! We have got to keep people like Harry Reid from funding these groups, with our tax dollars. Not much we can do about corporate America except call them out in the open.

that requiring identification effectively creates a poll tax on Arizona residents that cannot afford proper identification.
That's the same argument I heard in Ga, TN and other areas. The poor people can't afford a ID. That is beyond insane. I doubt there is anyone who couldn't afford the 5 bucks it costs for a picture ID! Ga. solved the problem by offering to pay for it! It's the Illegals and others who want to get all the corrupt votes they can. It just burns me up that they even discuss this. TN passed a law that EVERYONE had to show a ID to buy beer, but rejected a voter ID law. You want to talk about insanity. It was the Democrats who shot it down. It was also the Dems that shot down EVERY single anti-immigration bill except a couple of meaningless ones. It's so obvious. We had 11-12 state reps indicted for bribery last year. All Dems except two Republicans. The voter ID fraud in Memphis was unbelievable. They had 100's of DEAD people voting. It's all pretty scary when you think about it, especially with the drug cartels getting their people in office. We have to have voter ID!!!

The ONLY reason anybody would be against it, is obvious. It prevents corruption and they can't steal elections! There is NO other reason. The "can't afford" is just a ruse. It's laughable!

This is one anti-illegal immigration ruling that the illegal alien loving traitor Napolitano can't touch.
